Key Responsibilities:

The main function of this position is to design health and Rx benefit programs that are aligned with United's business strategy, and meet goals and population health goals. Provide thought leadership around the strategic direction and design of these programs as well as lead changes vital to move towards standard methodologies, improve processes, and actively engage all collaborators, including business leaders, employees, unions and suppliers. This position works to ensure that programs enable United to attract and retain a dedicated workforce, that we remain competitive while supporting the needs of a diverse workforce.

  • Lead the design and implementation of United’s strategies for employee medical benefit programs, crafted to improve employee engagement and manage costs more effectively. Project management ownership accountability includes managing the project using a project management tool, adhering to timelines, coordination with other teams including the operations, wellness, payroll and HR technology teams, and ensuring a successful project implementation outcome and integration.

  • Identify and deploy targeted medical programs and providers that align with United's strategic goals related to value and improving population health.

  • Design and implement a medical plan strategy that builds value among employees, influences overall health, addresses health equity and drives reduced long-term costs.

  • Oversee performance and maintain relations with various third party administrators to guarantee adherence with all policies, service level agreements, laws and regulations and to ensure excellent customer service for all United participants.

  • Partnering with procurement, initial vendor contracting and contract renewals, and creation of performance guarantees and service level agreements are also an important part of this role.

  • Identify and engage in cross-functional service integration opportunities with the objective of providing a better employee experience, and greater efficiency in program delivery

  • Be the subject matter expert of respective area for United. Prepare and present recommendations to human resources and other leaders, including unions, related to new offerings and changes to existing programs.

  • Partner with finance and actuarial team to develop metrics necessary to measure success of new initiatives and to advise current performance.

  • Assess trends and advise management (and unions as requested) as to impact on United's strategies and finances.

  • Lead and develop a team of benefits professionals. Establish priorities and oversee workflow of the team.

  • Coach and develop individual team members to foster growth and learning.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience

  • 7 or more years of relevant health promotion/wellness or health-related program planning and delivery industry knowledge and direct responsibility implementing wellness programs, Health and Wellness programs and innovative solutions

  • Outstanding communication skills

  • Proven ability to engage others

  • Project management and planning skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to build strong ties across cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for corporate wellness program

  • Ability to analyze and interpret and take action on program reports and metrics

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
