Principal Project Engineer

Supernal Los Alamitos, CA (Onsite) Full-Time

Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. What we do:


The Principal Project Engineer is responsible for defined, high priority ER&D projects such as Tech Demo, Prototype, etc. to ensure progress and technical quality in support of the Chief Engineer. To accomplish this, the position works closely with the Chief Engineer, Subject Matter Experts (e.g., Tech Fellows), Engineering Heads, as well as the PMO organization.




What you can do:



  • Build the engineering development effort and own the execution and implementation of the engineering process: design, development, integration, test, and performance verification in concert with the Chief Engineer and Project Manager

  • Accountable for aggregate technical team, engineering plan and execution, and performance to plan

  • Ensure that program technical resource needs are defined and met by working with the Chief Engineer and functional organizations to identify and secure appropriate staffing

  • Manage resource needs and lead engineering activities for a multi-functional engineering team

  • Implement program plans to conform to technical performance, cost, and schedule commitments

  • Coordinate all engineering work to support the project Integrated Master Schedule (IMS):

    • Assist in the management and application of the IMS

    • Lead development of engineering inputs to program IMS

    • Provide day-to-day prioritization of tasks within schedule

    • Work with PM/scheduler to update engineering personnel estimation

    • Accountable for engineering tasks, budget, schedule, and performance

    • Tracking and reporting of engineering progress



  • Coordinate and drive engineering tasks and actions to closure in a timely fashion

  • Manage the planning, execution, and tracking/reporting of all technical aspects of the engineering development for assigned project

  • Evaluate the integration of the engineering solution within the overall engineering environment; ensures that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed in accordance with Chief Engineer and SME guidance

  • Lead the engineering product development process through major program landmark reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, FRR, etc), in addition to helping establish the overall review plan

  • Support development of interface control documents, software requirement specifications, performance specifications

  • Support the development and execution of test plans and guides the integration, verification, validation, and documentation of requirements through the system development cycle

  • Keep comprehensive notes/records, provides formal documentation following established processes and makes technical presentations, as required

  • Travel Expectations: 10-20%

  • Other duties as required




What you can contribute:



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field required

  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of engineering related experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)

  • Strong skills in management, project management, leadership, communication, systems engineering, and engineering technical fields

  • Expertise in at least one engineering technical field or domain is required. Examples: power electronics, vehicles drive train, energy storage, mechanisms, structures, and flight sciences, etc

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of systems engineering processes, flow down of system requirements, system architecture and the interaction of system and subsystem requirements

  • Detailed understanding system verification and validation to ensure the final products conform to the stated requirements

  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Project, Atlassian) and strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Multi-tasking teammate with a hands-on approach; formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving sophisticated technical engineering problems

  • Proven ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads of technical team to meet established timeline or achievements

  • Broad, multi-disciplinary technical expertise and a history of applying of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice

  • Have a desire to work in a fast-paced testing environment

  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Experience with PLM (e.g. 3DX), requirements (e.g. DOORS), and MBSE (e.g. Rhapsody) tools desired

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.

The pay range for this position is:
$232,960—$349,440 USD
