The Emergency Medicine Department seeks a Full-Time Medical Director to join Mount Sinai Morningside/West and the Icahn Mount Sinai.
This role supports the implementation of medical and clinical policies, services and procedures for Mount Sinai Mount Sinai Morningside Department of Emergency Medicine. The Medical Director leads the strategic development and implementation of short- and long-term plans for on-going improvement of the clinical, operational, and administrative quality of the department. They will advance the clinical and administrative quality of the clinical environment of the Mt. Sinai Morningside Emergency Department and align with the quality, safety, and financial initiatives of the Mount Sinai Health System.
As the Medical Director, you will work with the director, chair and nursing leadership to initiate and implement clinical initiatives to improve key clinical flow and quality indicators (i.e. stroke initiatives, introduction of clinical pathways, cardiology collaborations, etc.). You will be responsible for reviewing the quality and flow metrics related to new initiatives and assist with developing countermeasures to improve areas of concern. The medical director will work clinically at Mount Sinai Morningside with an opportunity to work at Mount Sinai West as well as other sites in the system.
Working with Chair you will provide overall clinical direction to the Department of Emergency Medicine at MSM while acting at the liaison for interdisciplinary initiatives. The Medical Director will work closely and collaboratively with the Medical Director at Mount Sinai West to develop initiatives and processes that will be applicable to both sites. The director will also have a significant role on system wide and service line initiatives.
The Medical Director oversees the entire bi-yearly policy process including ongoing review, revision, implementation and dissemination. You will be an active participant for any investigation in cases requiring inquiry of clinical care, e.g. debriefings and RCA. The director will Provide direct oversight and act as liaison with risk management and hospital and system quality department as it pertains to ED cases. The Medical Director will have direct oversight of the physicians in the clinical area and collaborate with the chair to provide feedback and evaluations.
The Medical Director will assist with response to patient complaints and is the main liaison with the office of patient relations. Working along with ED patient experience leadership, you will help to implement key initiatives related to patient satisfaction ratings and concerns. The Medical Director will oversee review, revision and dissemination of all policies of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Position Qualifications:
Medical Degree from an Accredited University; MBA or related degree a plus
Current New York Medical License
Board Certified in Emergency Medicine
Clinical and Administrative experience required
Committed to Mount Sinai and the communities we serve
Excellent communication, bedside manner, and organizational skills
Interest in innovative and creative approaches to operations, quality and safety as well as scholarship in the area.

The Emergency Medicine Service Line has over 200 faculty and treats over 500K patients annually.
The Department of Emergency Medicine has two EM residencies along with Fellowships in Pediatric EM, Global Health, Ultrasound, Informatics, Sports Medicine, Administration, Simulation, and Research. Each year, our EM training programs educates approximately 150 residents and over 15 fellows. As of 2020, the Icahn School of Medicines Department of Emergency Medicine is ranked among the top five (5) academic emergency departments among medical schools in the United States in National Institutes of Health funding.
Compensation range from 350K to 375K (not including bonuses / Incentive compensation or benefits).
