Travel & Pay
The other key component of a career in Field service is travel. Travel requirements in these types of positions vary widely and could consist of day travel in a local market or domestic travel Monday through Friday. When not at client site, home office responsibilities can include quality control of equipment prior to shipment and technical phone support for customers, among other duties. Salary for Field Service careers varies depending on the position and prior experience, but total first year compensation can run from about $50,000 - $75,000.

Customer service skills are extremely important in Field Service careers, as you are the "face" of the company to customers you work with. There are also many benefits to a career in Field Service that expand further than standard health insurance and 401k companies may offer. Additionally, there are several intangible benefits within Field Service, including the ability to work independently, flexibility, the ability to network and getting the opportunity to meet a variety of people, as well as getting paid to travel and gain travel miles or rewards for personal use. You may also even have the ability to be based out of your home due to the extensive travel that most Field Service positions entail.
