NETWORK DESIGN ENGINEER
Job Description:
The  Network Design Engineer  must have mastery of the fundamental connectivity and inner workings of the network and is accountable for the research and implementation of network design plans and the monitoring of network facility utilization.
Performs duties under the direction of the Network Design Manager. Must exercise discretion, sound judgment, on behalf of the Engineering department and the Company, when investigating, analyzing and summarizing information to provide accurate and concise recommendations on the deployment of network plans, network performance and facility utilization.
The Network Design Engineer is expected to utilize and apply their collective knowledge and experience to solve complex network designs or handle complicated projects in a timely manner.
Daily Responsibilities

Monitors and analyzes network transport facility utilization, including subscriber carrier transport facilities, fiber transport facilities, data transport facilities, radio transport facilities and inter-exchange trunk facilities.
Monitors and analyzes affiliate company (ISP) server design and utilization, as well as Data transport facilities and utilization and augments as required.
Prepares network facility augmentation plans
Monitors and analyzes ADSL transport facilities and augments as required
Provisions central office and remote electronic equipment
Engineers COE and Transmission work orders and develops plans and specifications for transport facilities.
Engineers facility rearrangements
In all areas of engineering design and development of plans and specifications, must ensure applicable RUS specifications are being utilized and adhered to
Prepares RUS form 397, form 525 and form 773 contracts as appropriate
Prepares accurate cost estimates
Coordinates completion and cut-over of work orders with Outside Plant, Central Office and Customer

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, emphasis in electronic engineering or related field desirable
4 years as an Associate Network Design Engineer, systems planner, or similar position, where duties correspond with the essential and periodic functions of this position

Technical Requirements

Computer literate with emphasis on Microsoft Office
Functional knowledge of AutoCad software
Knowledge of cable splicing and assignment
Functional knowledge of Central Office Equipment
Functional knowledge of Central Office cabling parameters
Knowledge of RUS symbols and procedures
Knowledge of data and special circuit design parameters
Proficiency in reading engineering schematics
Proficiency in reading and developing as-built prints
Ability to design, install, configure, manage, secure, and optimize BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RIP, Static Routing, EIGRP, and Cisco IOS.
Knowledge and understanding of OSI protocol stack, LAN/WAN protocols, VLANS, router operating systems.
Knowledge and understanding of Fiber Optic transport systems including DWDM.
Experience in developing and implementing TCP/IP networks.
Strong understanding of basic DC and AC electronics with ability to design DC power systems based on usage and consumption projections
Possesses and maintains a valid and unrestricted class “C” driver’s license, with driving records that provides insurability under the Company’s vehicle insurance carrier and within the guidelines of the Company.
