Hughes Network Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer . This position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD.
As a member of our Core Operations Systems Support group, the engineer will be expected to provide support to the Operations Engineering teams through System Administration, Systems Engineering and Design, Virtualization concepts and Support, Domain Name System, and Storage Administration. Additionally, the role requires support of the 24/7 Operations centers on a rotation for all of the listed technologies.
Responsibilities:
Support Network Operations platform and system engineering needs and issues.
Implement solutions for platform, operating system, and storage infrastructure.
Maintain firmware, software, and versions of all Common Off the Shelf Products used for platform and system support.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues with VMware, Netapp, EMC, Windows, Red Hat, and other major technology vendors.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Network Engineering, telecommunication or related technical field
5 years’ experience with Windows, Red Hat or equivalent Enterprise Linux operating system deployment, administration, and solutions engineering.
5 years’ experience with Virtualization (VMware. KVM, or Hyper-V.  VMware preferred.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong network engineering background
Scripting knowledge in Python and Bash.
Strong independent work ethic and ability to lead/drive projects.
Scripting Knowledge in PowerShell
Understanding of BIND DNS and Unix authentication (PAM)
Strong understanding of Network File Storage/Network Attached Storage support

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
