MMI currently has telework opportunity for a Manager of Quality Assurance working in our IT Department. This position will primarily be telework (work from home). For telework candidates not in the Houston area, occasional travel will be required.

We’re searching for an individual dedicated to leading a diverse team of hard-working Software QA Analysts who are passionate about their work as a team, a department, and a company. You should have prior management experience as well as hands on experience as a Software QA Analyst, including extensive usage of contemporary platforms that support automated testing (experience in SmartBear’s Test Complete and/or LambdaTest is a significant plus as well as the use of Azure DevOps Test Planning suite). Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills are a must as well.

What will you do as a Manager of Quality Assurance?

The Manager, Software Quality Assurance is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and direction of the Quality Assurance team within the IT Department.

Works with IT Leadership to identify, implement, and monitor new QA/Testing services and systems that support MMI’s development process. Provides exemplary, effective leadership and management skills aimed at both achieving key deliverables and quality standards and developing and enhancing the skills and professional capacities of team members. This role will also partner with organizational stakeholders outside of the IT department to coordinate work efforts for maximum impact to MMI.

In all aspects of work, this role will help ensure that the services provided support the organization’s mission and meet all agreed upon quality, security and performance standards.

The primary responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the software development process by ensuring that released code meets the highest standards of quality, both in terms of functionality and in solving business needs.
  • Guiding the testing process, from the implementation of the platform to partnering with our software development process to design and implement test patterns, to the final approval of features.
  • Mentoring the software QA team by performing regular performance reviews and providing guidance on enhancing career paths.
  • Partnering with business analysts and software engineers to document business requirements and create the pathways for the development of software solutions.
Additionally, you will be responsible for
  • The design and implementation of test plans for new and modified software.
  • Leading the QA team with creativity and best practices for test creation, execution, and management.
  • Performing both functional and regression testing to ensure requirements are met and software development practices conform to established guidelines.
  • Writing queries for extracting information for the gathering of test data using SQL.
  • Checking and reviewing test cases to identify problems or issues.
  • Suggesting solutions, improvements, or enhancements to better meet the needs of the end user.
  • Validating quality by implementing non-functional tests for collecting baselines and measuring against them.
  • Constantly improving software test process using automation and emerging technology.
  • Managing the suite of manual and automated test cases.
Skills and Experience

Candidates must be able to accomplish most, or all, of the following at a high level of competency:
  • Write SQL queries necessary for extracting information needed for gathering test data
  • Implement of commercial automated software testing tools
  • Oversee the successful completion of the regression and release cycles
  • Coordinate test activities with testing resources and other stakeholders
  • Assess severity and set priorities in a busy work environment
  • Develop in-depth product knowledge in order to advise on quality improvements
  • Support feature development through active team participation
  • Share information through excellent verbal and written communication skills
Additionally, you should have:
  • A proven track record of leading and mentoring a team of Software QA Analysts, with the managerial skills necessary to help them juggle multiple projects and manage their time
  • A deep desire to work closely with cross functional team members to ensure that deadlines and goals are met, as well as quality software is released on schedule
The individual must also possess the following education and experience:
  • 4-year degree from accredited institution with relevant coursework, additional applicable work experience and multiple advanced technical certifications in programming language or software design may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on Software QA experience, including extensive usage of contemporary platforms that support automated testing - experience in SmartBear’s Test Complete and/or LambdaTest is a significant plus as well as the use of Azure DevOps Test Planning suite
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing and/or directing a QA team with proven experience in QA planning, requirements gathering, test case design, manual and automated testing process, managing defects, and software deployment.
  • Seven plus years’ experience working in the technology industry.
  • Experience in working with the Agile methodology is preferred.
  • ISTQB or equivalent software QA certification is preferred.
