REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager, Building Principal, and Child Nutrition Coordinator
SUMMARY: As a member of the school cafeteria staff, under the direct supervision of the
cafeteria manager, the driver will be responsible for delivering meals and supplies to outgoing schools, serving at the school as needed, returning items to the base kitchen, and helping in other ways as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent and the ability to pass the USD 475
Math test.
Valid Kansas Drivers License with clean record
Experience in transportation or foodservice a plus
Successful completion of the Kansas State Department of Education
(KSDE) Food Safety Basics class within 6 months of hire date.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
CRITICAL SKILLS:
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Practice good personal hygiene and safety procedures.
2. Help in the Warehouse to stock Foodservice Supplies and work with the other drivers to load trucks for daily deliveries.
3. Drives a truck to deliver prepared food, cash, and other related items to school site kitchens.
4. Loads and unloads food transport carts and places them in designated areas for use by other food service personnel.
5. Picks up leftover food and supplies, cash, and receipt reports from school site kitchens for transport to the base kitchen.
6. Fuels and washes assigned District vehicle and makes certain that the vehicle is properly serviced, cleaned and maintained; reports vehicle maintenance problems to Food Service Supervisors and to District mechanics.
7. Serves students and staff at an assigned school site, or provides assistance to skilled food service personnel at the base kitchen.
8. Assures foods served are the correct temperature.
9. Cleans work areas and disposes of refuse.
10. Assists in maintaining kitchen and equipment in a clean, safe and sanitary condition.
11. Works cooperatively with site staff, administration and community members.
12. Washes and stores dishes, kitchen utensils and assigned equipment.
13. May set up steam tables, salad bars, condiment tables, and other kitchen equipment for dispensing foods.
14. May be assigned to assist in inventorying or working in the food service warehouse facility.
15. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
16. Summer duties - works for both Child Nutrition Services and the Warehouse on an as needed basis.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
? Ability to pre-plan, set priorities, and manage time to meet production timelines.
? Physical ability to move, push, pull, lift and carry up to 100 pounds, push food carts, bend, and reach, as well as stand for extended periods, 4 hours at a time possibly.
? English proficiency to be able to read, understand, adjust recipes, and communicate with coworkers and cafeteria manager.
? Knowledge and practice of health and safety standards.
? Work rapidly and efficiently in the performance of assigned tasks.
? Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
? Work independently, with only general supervision.
? Communicate effectively and work courteously and tactfully with co-workers, students, staff and community members.
? Obey traffic laws and safe driving practices.
? Good safety practices in pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy materials.
? Proper methods for loading, unloading, and transporting of food service carts and other materials; securing them properly in order to avoid damage to equipment and materials.
? Proper use and care of commercial kitchen equipment and utensils.
? Basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure.
? Assist food service personnel in the preparation, service and distribution of large quantity of food.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to loud noise and outside weather conditions, including fumes and airborne particles, and vehicular vibrations. Is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. Works in a noisy school site kitchen and/or base kitchen using appropriate kitchen equipment, such as heated food carts, ovens, steam table, freezers, refrigerator and refrigerated milk carts; routine exposure to heat, cold, and steam resulting from assembling and maintaining food at appropriate temperatures; exposure to liquid and powdered cleaning agents used to clean kitchen surfaces and appliances. Works in warehouse that maybe subject to temperature variations and also in freezers.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 months
SALARY RANGE: 14.61-15.61
EVALUATION FREQUENCY: Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of 1 time per year.
