Summary

Costar Technologies is seeking an Electronics Engineer to design a wide range of security and surveillance camera systems, ranging from high-volume, cost-effective solutions to high-end, ruggedized military grade systems. This is a hands-on role that involves working on PCBA design and product development activities from concept through production.  The Electronics Engineer will also perform sustaining electronics engineering tasks including diagnosing and resolving problems found in the field or in Manufacturing, generating, and driving associated documentation and approvals.



Responsibilities

  • Analyze electronic requirements against design, time, and cost constraints.
  • Perform design and schematic capture of digital and analog circuits using Altium Designer.
  • Create PCBA designs for serviceability, manufacturability, and reliability
  • Work with a cross functional team including mechanical and software engineers to develop camera designs from concept to implementation.
  • Design and support PCBA bring-up and test systems.
  • Perform compliance testing tasks for certifying existing and new products, including testing both in-house and at the test labs.
  • Understand and follow Costar processes, design practices, and documentation templates.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation to support version control, production release and training.
  • Resolve component replacement issues arising from EOL or last time buy (LTB) announcement received from vendors.
  • Support Contract Manufacturing and vendor issues.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems with camera products.


Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering discipline.



Skills and Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of design experience.
  • Experience designing with latest processing technologies and architectures including micro-processors, DDR and eMMC memories.
  • Experience building and delivering complex electro-mechanical systems is desired.
  • Highly proficient with using Altium schematic capture and layout tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and approval processes for UL, FCC/CE certifications.
  • Hands-on experience in component evaluation and selection, design validation and qualification.
  • Experience with board, module, and system level electronic bring up and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent understanding of hardware interfaces such as UART, ADC, I2C, and SPI.
  • Knowledge of digital video standards such as MIPI is desired.
  • Experience with using engineering test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Power Supplies, logic, and bus analyzers.
  • Experience managing BOMs, ECOs, and documentation around product lifecycles
  • Must have basic soldering/re-work skills.
  • Ability to work and efficiently communicate in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

 



Work Conditions

  • 40-hour on-site work week.
  • Some travel may be required – less than 20%.
  • Office, Engineering lab and commercial test lab environment. Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time; Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.
  • Collecting, transporting, setting up, tearing down and using lab equipment, instrumentation, computers, and camera products
