of the group:

The Cell Culture and Fermentation Sciences Group is accountable for cell line development, process development, and process characterization activities associated with clinical and commercial manufacturing processes. This group assists in the development, scale up, and technical transfer of processes to different manufacturing sites and also supports manufacturing deviations and regulatory submissions as needed.



Main Duties &


Responsibilities:

This position within Cell Culture and Fermentation Sciences group would involve developing processes suited for clinical and commercial manufacture of non-oncology cell therapy products based on immune cells from donors or those derived from pluripotent cell lines. The candidate will have expertise in immune cell biology, gene editing, pluripotent cells, or bioprocessing relevant to allogeneic therapies. The candidate should be well conversed in principles related to hypoimmunogenicity and kill switches as they related to development of allogeneic cellular products. The candidate is expected to design, optimize, characterize, and immune-cell/pluripotent cell culture processes. The candidate will be involved in developing a manufacturing ready cell culture platform that can be scaled up consistently across scales. The candidate will lead the evaluation/development of bioreactor platforms as well as different media for growing native or edited immune cells such as cytotoxic T cells or Treg cells. Finally, the work will involve understanding how different nutritional, mechanical, and hydrodynamic parameters may affect the cell fate of immune cells. The candidate should have sound knowledge of immune-cell/mammalian cell biology and genome engineering approaches and apply the relevant techniques as needed for intended applications. Experience working with pluripotent cells would be a significant plus. Equally important, the candidate should have demonstrated capability of leading a team and developing junior staff. The following is desired of the candidateApplies molecular biology/engineering principles to advance the immune cell platform to develop non-oncology cellular productsPerforms laboratory experiments using Cytotoxic T/Treg cells/ESCs/iPSCs through cross functional interactions to advance the pipeline and understand the fundamental mechanisms associated with T/stem cell differentiation, shear sensitivity, stress response, and scale-up of immune/stem cellsMakes detailed observations, analyses data, and interprets results. Demonstrates scientific rigor in assessing own data and that of others. Utilizes forward-looking perspective to contribute to “go/no go“ decisions.Is familiar with different analytical methods that are used to characterize different stages in T-cell/stem cell proliferation and differentiation.



Is knowledgeable in either or all the of the following areas:

T-cell bioprocessing, T-cell biology, stem cell bioprocessing, stem cell biology, genetic manipulation of T/stem cells, metabolism of T/stem cells, or/and physiology, bioprocessing, and metabolism of mammalian cellsStrategic thinker, Evolving subject matter expert in T/stem cell field or mammalian cell physiology/bioprocessing/metabolism, Good publication record, Leads/Participates in various cross functional technology development teams.Authors and contributes to development reports, scientific publications, patents, and regulatory submissions.Is a good communicator, Effectively presents results at internal meetings and external scientific meetings.Work effectively and collegially as a team member/leader within a highly matrixed organizational structure, Develops junior staffA strong team player who can effectively perform or lead the technical transfer activities and manufacturing support for the clinical/commercial processEducation & Experience
