Development And Communications Specialist
Homeward Bound of WNC

Full-Time
As part of the Resource Development, the Development and Communications Specialist is a full-time hourly non-exempt position with benefits. Compensation for this position is $21.63/hour which equals $45,000 annually.
In collaboration with the Senior Resource Development Director and Major Gifts Officer, the Development and Communications Specialist will create and execute the strategy to increase Homeward Bound’s donor base including soliciting and cultivating business sponsors. The Development and Communications Specialist will manage all internal and external communications and collateral ensuring Homeward Bound’s message is consistent, appropriate, and engaging. The Development and Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating informative and creative social media, marketing, and advertising content, as well as updating and, and maintaining Homeward Bound’s website. The ideal candidate will be well adept at fundraising and communicating through the written and spoken word, social media, film, and web content.

Responsibilities:
DONOR RELATIONS
• Collaborate with the Resource Development team to ensure that donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders are nurtured and appreciated
• Assist Senior Resource Development Director and Major Gifts Officer in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors. This includes recognition and fundraising events and activities
• Educate, table at events, and speak in public on behalf of the agency
• Organize collateral and materials needed for RD team appointments and events
• Assist Major Gifts Officer with agency tours and follow up with attendees
COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES
• Take the lead in coordinating bi-monthly e-newsletters
• Generate content and layout for the e-newsletter, annual report, and printed newsletter
• Update the website regularly and add new content
• Either take photographs or coordinate a photographer for all events and occasions
• Draft and design direct mail pieces and coordinate with print shops
• Design promotional materials and flyers as needed
• Develop a social media strategy including crowdfunding campaigns
• Produce, film, edit and distribute video and podcast content
• Design of annual report
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
• Take the lead in soliciting businesses for annual sponsorships with sponsors before and after events to ensure fulfillment of sponsorship benefits
• Coordinate with Business Engagement Specialists on the promotion (social media, e-newsletter, etc.) of community Initiated events and REACH events
• Coordinate with Grants Manager on thanking grantors on social media
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required, a certificate in nonprofit management a plus
• Three years of successful experience in fundraising and development work required
• Graphic design experience required
• Marketing experience preferred
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Videography and video editing skills a plus
• Extensive experience with crafting social media posts, maintaining and updating the agency website, and crafting newsletters and e-newsletters.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Adobe
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects
• Ability to work both independently and in a team
