Quality Engineer I

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor International (MCO-I) Houston, TX (On Site) Full-Time

Summary

This entry level position provides MHI Compressor quality skills and capabilities to achieve and maintain ISO compliance, develop and improve quality processes, metrics and analysis, and provide quality support to the business.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with departments standard operating procedures

This position will assist with/support the following:

  • Develop, implement and sustain Quality Management System landscape with objective to obtain & maintain targeted industry Quality certifications, including ISO 9001.
  • Administer MCO-I Quality Management Systems Audit Program. Perform internal audits and manage third party registrar & customer audits and assessments.
  • Prepare, update & maintain QMS procedures, work instructions, process flow maps, and support the business to develop and update specific processes, forms, tools and template as required.
  • Manage the approval and controls of QMS documents, data management and distribution.
  • Train employees on the use of QMS procedures, tools and standards as applicable. Maintain Quality team’s training records and competency matrix.
  • Lead and facilitate Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Preventive Actions and timely resolution in response to audit findings, products and/or processes non-conformances and customer complaints.
  • Perform Data Analysis. Prepare, manage and track MCO-I Quality Objectives, KPI Reports and conduct management review.
  • Prepare and publish monthly and quarterly Cost of Quality reports, performance scorecards and business dashboards.
  • Manage Calibration Program for all Measuring, Monitoring Testing Equipment & Devices.
  • Key contributor to support Quality & Business Processes and lead Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as super user on ERP and other IT tools for Quality & Business Programs.
  • Lead and manage QA/QC aspects of Customer Service Business. Create and ensure Inspection Test Plans & Quality Plans are being properly followed. Assist is preparation, maintenance and interpretation of technical specifications, customer requirements, standards, and documents.
  • Broad knowledge on Inspection techniques, including but not limited to, Non Destructive Exams (PT, UT, MT, RT), Dimensional, Receiving, In-process and Final Inspections per ITP requirements
  • Develop, implement, and enforce inspection checklist and instructions designed to ensure that all quality flaws in design, repair & overhaul processes and workmanship have been identified before products and services are released for shipment.
  • Process non-conformance reports (NCR). Collate and analyze NCR data for weekly Material Review Board, disposition action and NCR timely closure. Conduct monthly NCR & CPAR review workshops to prevent recurrence and systematic issues.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Operations, and other functional teams to ensure quality assurance and quality control requirements are understood and implemented.

Requirements

  • Degree in Quality, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient computer experience (MS Office Access, Word, Excel, PPT)
  • Customer / team management - ability to define problem, establish teams and communications, facilitate reviews, gather and consolidate data, contain and correct, follow-up on internal and customer issues through resolution and validation. Utilize DMAIC / PDCA processes.
  • Quality Management Systems – Development and deployment of Quality Assurance Policies, Procedures, Work Instructions, Checklists, Forms
  • Capable to create systems, coordinate data collection and analysis – NCR, Field Reporting, NPS
  • Knowledge of basic blueprint reading, GD&T, Statistical Process Control Methods
  • Oil & Gas equipment – testing, assembly and deployment of compressors, packages, piping, vessels, engines, motors, control panels
  • Requires flexibility, ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, and possess excellent interpersonal skills

  • Up to Three (3) years of experience in Quality Assurance or Manufacturing Environment

  • API / ASME / TR&S
  • Quality Reporting

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and work in front of a computer for majority of the day.
  • Minor lifting of files and/or boxes < 5 lbs.
