MDS Coordinator (Registered Nurse)

The PPS RN will be responsible for planning, developing and overall coordinating activities that support the Prospective Payment System (PPS) process for the inpatient rehabilitation unit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  • The PPS Coordinator coordinates the data collection on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI)
  • Serves as facility contact with Managed Care providers to ensure appropriate authorization and reimbursement for facility services provided.
  • Assures accuracy and completeness of entire residents’ medical record
  • Manages the completion of MDS to ensure they are within HCFA and Medicare guidelines
  • Supervises MDS Coordinator(s), if designated.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor, management staff or Administrator.

PPS (RN) Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Nurse with current license in state
  • Minimum of two years experience in rehabilitation or a closely related field is required
  • Knowledge of MDS/PPS scheduling, completion, coding, and submission requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state Medicaid program, Medicare/PPS program, Managed Care programs, RUGs III and RUGs IV classification and reimbursement systems, Part A coverage guidelines and documentation requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and a willingness to handle residents
  • Current CPR certification
