Has skills and knowledge of established concepts, principles and practices related to health care assignments with additional training or experience in assessing the conditions of a wide variety of patients and patient presentations. Experience in providing emergency medical care and also providing professional advice on associated health care needs. Participates in the development of individualized care plans that take into consideration mental, emotional, social and physical well-being.
Knowledge of a wide range of diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic medical services and interventions in turn related to the medical health care fields included in primary care. This includes some degree of obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, geriatrics, orthopedics, internal medicine, psychiatry, dentistry, hospital medicine, family care, minor surgery and nutrition as well as emergency medicine.
Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case.
Collects, organizes, records and communicates, in a meaningful way, data relevant to primary health assessments including a detailed family and medical history, a physical examination and selective laboratory tests. Examines, makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes and/or provides treatment, or arranges for specialized care consultation or emergency patient transfer as required.
Provides definitive management in all medical categories for cases that do not require referral. An assigned facility APRN may also assist in the examination and treatment of emergency department patients with consultation as required. Addresses timely preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to ensure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care.
Provides for other physicians, hospitals and departments as well as specified individuals to receive clinical records as required for patient care or reimbursement. Knowledge of (and experience with) stressful situations in order to exercise the emotional control, tact and patience necessary to reliably carry out patient care.
Works closely with assigned mid-level providers (NP and PA) along with other Allied Health Professionals in the provision of a broad spectrum of health program services. Has the professional acumen and willingness to provide advice, guidance and leadership to other healthcare providers. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals in order to recognize their desired effects, side effects and complications of their use.
Frequent consultation with on- or off-site pharmacy associates may be required due to patient care requests and limited pharmaceutical availability, etc. Knowledge of, or willingness to ascertain, the availability of and uses for local resources designated for primary care and referral services.
Able to provide individual and family counseling, providing guidance and other health instructions to help patients understand how to prevent disease and maintain both good physical and mental health. Knowledge of the quality assurance and evaluation process to improve care and facilitate monitoring and program planning.
Complies with Indian Health Service and Service Unit-specific Medical Staff/Governing Body Bylaws, Rules and Regulations. Also complies with ongoing requirements for credentialing and privileging as an active member of the medical staff.
Prairie Band Health Services is subject to Title 22: Employment Code of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. In accordance with Title 22, this position is designated as a TIER 1 position. Preference will be given to individuals to the extent required pursuant to Section 22-2-4(B). To be considered for employment with Indian Preference, documentation is required to be provided at time of application.

Requirements:
Qualifications/Certification:
Board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, American Board of Family Medicine, or American Board of Internal Medicine.
General Practitioners (non-residency trained physicians) or Board-eligible physicians or other specialties will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Experienced ABEM or AOBEM certified physicians are preferred due to the facility's limited in-house clinical support.
All physician applicants require at least three (3) years of current emergency care experience in an emergency department with an annual volume of at least 10,000 visits.
A license to practice in the United States is required.
Protecting Children from Sexual Abuse in Health Care Settings; complete the Certificate of Completion. NoFEAR Act Training; complete the Certificate of Completion.
Current certification is required in BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support, PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support).
