Job Description

General Description:
The job responsibility of the Director of Rental is to manage the rental product line of INL.


The following duties and responsibilities are also requirements for this position:


Manage the Rental Fleet and Employees:

  • Identify branches and vehicle classes with low utilization. Implement corrective action.
  • Monitor substitute vehicles.  Work with the Rental Coordinators (RC) and Operations to reduce the time a rental vehicle is used as a substitute.
  • Identify dead-lined rental equipment and length of time for downed vehicles.  Work with the RC’s and Operations to reduce downtime to a minimum
  • Review weekly Turn Down Report and daily utilization report to better balance the rental fleet for optimum utilization and margin return.
  • Review each Rental branch marketing plan, driving the telemarketing efforts of the RC’s.
  • Evaluate and set training schedules for the individual RC’s and the group.
  • Establish rental pricing parameters based upon utilization and ROI.
  • Provide evaluation and feedback to each branch on rental performance.
  • Stress utilization problems and suggested corrective action.
  • Identify off-lease (or surplus) vehicles for rental
  • Ensure qualified part-time drivers are employed for non-revenue movement of INL vehicles


Drive Rental Margin and Revenue Results:

  • Monitor weekly and evaluate monthly to show performance vs. goals.
  • Evaluate by branch for feedback and corrective action.
  • Send to each RC for review.
  • Track month to month to monitor, measure, and establish benchmarks for setting goals.
  • Check branch rental rates weekly to target vehicles falling below required monthly margins.
  • Contact the RC’s and Branch Sales Managers for corrective action. Set follow up plan to confirm adjustments have been made to the deficient rate.


Development and Training of RC’s:

  • Excellent phone skills
  • Telemarketing skills and comfort.
  • Proper use of CRM
  • Proper communication with shop on rental equipment.
  • Proper billing practices and procedures.
  • Proper vehicle check- in and check-out procedures.

Job Requirements

The following are the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position:


  • Must perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • College degree or equivalent preferred; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common industry and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and peers.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math and algebra.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
