Job Description

MECHANICAL ENGINEER

  • Need a fabricated equipment engineer. 

  • An expert at pressure vessels, heat exchangers, silos, and other static equipment and can develop and review Static Equipment technical specifications; and rotating equipment such as pumps

  • Strong knowledge of applicable equipment codes and standards

  • Well versed in the preparation and review of the following

  1. Equipment specifications; fabricated and/or rotating

  2. Technical bid evaluations

  3. Fabrication drawings

  4. Calculations by hand and using equipment software such as PV Elite or Compress

  • Technically competent professional that is capable of leading the mechanical effort on large projects

  • Works with manufacturers of new equipment and services to make presentations and conduct seminars

  • Background in operability principals and maintenance requirements of the diverse machinery used in the chemical industry

  • Provides assistance and expertise to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering

  • Inspection and testing procedures from purchase through delivery

  • Executes assignments of a complex nature

  • Capable of directing the development of Engineering Practices in the mechanical area

  • Provide Early Conceptual Engineering / Design Basis Development Support / Production Design Support for mechanical systems

  • Must be able to work with little supervision (will normally be working with no other mechanicals)

  • Under general supervision, applies engineering principles and practices in the execution of assigned engineering scopes.  Coordinates work with other functions, departments, construction, and plant personnel.  Provides these functions for multiple projects with minimal supervision. 

  • Participates in various project phases including Feasibility Studies, Front End Loading, and Detailed Design for respective discipline.

  • Must have followed equipment design through fabrication and delivery at site.

  • Establishes or supports development of code requirements, basic design criteria and specifications

  • Develops conceptual designs and evaluates alternative designs for suitability on the project.

  • Prepare engineering calculations to adequately quantify the required performance on the project

  • Prepares equipment specifications/datasheets for select equipment components.  Reviews and approves vendor documentation.

  • Responsible for technical content and quality of engineering/design deliverables for assigned projects

  • Provides input to construction scopes of work, prepares material take-off sheets and reviews construction cost estimates

  • Prepares or reviews construction installation specifications, details and technical bid packages

  • Reviews designs for compliance with basic data and regulatory requirements

  • Provides input to project documents such as scopes of work, estimates, schedules, workforce planning, etc.

  • Provides guidance to internal and external clients

  • Performs site visits for scope development, as-built conditions, scope verification and troubleshooting.

  • Develop scopes of work, equipment lists, cost estimates, and schedules for mechanical related equipment

  • Review and correct Fabrication drawings

  • Reviews designs for compliance with basic data and regulatory requirements

  • Knowledge of Weld Procedures

  • Inspection and testing procedures from purchase through delivery

  • Provides guidance to internal and external clients

  • Keeps abreast of new technologies

  • Ability to travel 20 - 40% of the time

     

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer
  • Provide leadership and mentor young Mechanical Engineers

  • Experience in effective project execution practices and application of project procedures

  • Strong organizational skills for multiple project execution

  • Effective Writing and Communication Skills

  • Capable of working independently to complete the assigned projects

  • Experience in Earned Value reporting, Resource forecasting and Schedule status

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of applications, and the ability to quickly learn and use other software packages

  • Experience in Construction Installation Specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem solving (decision making) skills
  • Collaborative team player capable of working well with people across all hierarchies
  • Good organizational and presentation skills
  • Good interpersonal skills such as communication, listening, verbal and assertiveness
