The Admission Staff is responsible for all aspects of the admission process. This includes accepting the referring phone call, gathering all required clinical information, recording it and reviewing this information with the identified physician. Upon patient arrival the Admission Staff will meet with the patient and family, when available, to accurately complete all necessary paperwork. When necessary, the Admissions Staff will work with the family or guardian to secure all necessary paperwork to calculate and determine family’s financial responsibility. After the completion of this process, the Admission Staff will collaborate with the nursing staff to “hand-off" this patient and family thus completing their portion of the admission process. This position may also assist direct care workers by providing support to the units during times of crisis.
Unit Specific Performance Objectives
Schedule admission of patients,
Provide explanation of hospital regulations, and providing tours of the facility and program explanations where indicated to the patient and family
Register all incoming patients by verifying or entering current demographic/insurance information into the computer system and obtaining copies of all insurance cards. Obtain the required signatures on all paperwork.
Explains rates, charges, and insurance coverage to families, completes pre-certification requirements as needed, and refers issues regarding patient to the Patient Advocate.
Insures that patients have been medically cleared prior to admission and consults with the psychiatrist regarding appropriateness of the admission
Explains commitment procedures to families and referral sources and initiates commitment procedures as warranted.
Must have the ability to effectively communicate information to patients, families and physicians in one-on-one situation. Basic computer knowledge and experience. Ability to add/subtract, Multiple/divide. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
Demonstrates general knowledge of substance abuse issues.
Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific growth and development.
Demonstrates the ability to address cultural diversity and specific patient/family issues.
Performs on-call responsibilities as assigned, accepting calls during non-business working hours, consulting with the on-call physician regarding patient disposition, maintaining communication with the referral sources, completing pre-certification requirements, and advising nursing unit of resultant admissions.

Files/faxes as needed. Answers telephones, directs and manages all calls as needed
Ensure all ROI Releases of Information are completed and signed as indicated. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Social Work, Psychology or Humanities field.
Some experience on a child/adolescent psychiatric unit; providing services to children or families or other related positions preferred.
Maintains competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.
The ability to use manual and computerized systems to register admissions.
Valid Act 34/34 clearances required.
Valid PA Driver's License.
Knowledge of age specific growth and development
Must meet job competencies within 90 days of hire.
