Job Description

Tooling & Engineering  Manager: Plastics Manufacturing

-- Direct Hire with benefits and relocation  --

  • Location: Macon, GA
  • Compensation: Up to $110K base, relocation package is provided, annual performance bonus.
  • Plastics Manufacturing ‘fits’: Plastic Extrusion, Injection Molding, Thermoforming, blow molding. You can fit in this role without having managed other engineers before.
  • Degree Needed:  You need an engineering degree to apply.  Please note this.

The Company

This plastics manufacturing company (non-automotive) has been around for 40 years, has a few plants in the US, is privately owned, and sells its products into the outdoor consumer goods, building and construction, appliances, and agriculture.  Reiteration - this is not an automotive company.  The company maintains a tightly-knit cultural feel, yet is large enough to provide a touch of corporate tones without the thick, red tape.  The hired person will lead the company’s engineering and tooling management support among its several plants. There is not significant travel involved.

The Job: Engineering Manager, Tooling Manager, Sr. Plant Engineer

You will provide multi-site engineering and tooling support (limited travel involved) and will manage all major engineering projects.  Previous management experience over engineering is not a requirement.  These projects can range from Capex and facilities to NPD and tooling.  Not all projects will be tooling and new product introduction related, but the majority will be. The company’s tooling efforts are set up in a fashion that HQ – location of this position – supports all of the facilities’ tooling needs. Each plant’s maintenance crews have access to some tool room related equipment to take care of minor mold needs. When other production sites have tooling issues greater than polishing / grinding or other light rework, the troubled molds in the field are shipped to this location. In some cases, field personnel are sent out to production facilities or 3rd parties are used to service molds.

You will directly manage a crew of around 40. This will involve tool room, maintenance, and engineering employees. You will also be an integral part of new tooling design, tracking performance, orchestrating operating procedures, managing vendors and 3rd party machine shops.

The recruiting process

Your resume is going to a real person –I will be calling you if you are a fit - my name is Tim. We will have a brief, initial discussion so that you can decide if this is worth putting your name in the hat. Then we will roll into a 20 minute discussion about your areas of expertise, accomplishments, and motivations to consider a potential move. After that, the ball is in my court as I work to get you an interview with the company.

Your information will be held highly confidential – express interest or apply with confidence.

Job Requirements

  • Engineering degree
  • Plastics Manufacturing specific background – plastic extrusion, molding, blow molding
  • Tooling project support – from design and vendor selection to  post production support
  • Project leadership: developing budgets, timelines, scope, and driving along
  • Management experience is key. Having managed a tool room specifically is a bonus but not required
