Job Description

Carlile Transportation is seeking a payroll professional to join our team in the role of Payroll Supervisor. The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the semi-monthly payroll for all Carlile employees. The ideal candidate will have experience handling multiple tasks under firm deadlines and a strong understanding of current payroll laws. The Payroll Supervisor also acts as a liaison between Human Resources and all other departments, promoting open lines of communication with employees, supervisors, and outside vendors while maintaining confidentiality. Job Requirements

Essential Job Responsibilities

§  Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll.  Uses automated system to produce accurate and timely bi-weekly and off-cycle payrolls.

 

§  Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws and maintains current knowledge of the same.

                                                                                                             

§  Prepares and process voluntary and involuntary deductions such as garnishments, vacation time, insurance and 401(k) deductions.

 

§  Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management.

 

§  Stays current on payroll systems to achieve alignment with HR and to ensure effective accounting support.

 

§  Facilitates management and employee understanding of payroll procedures.

 

§  Participates in and supervises payroll audit activities.

 

§  Recommends best practices, develops procedures and documents processes.

 

§  Other job related duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certifications)

§  High school diploma

§  4+ years payroll experience

§  1+ year payroll supervisory experience

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

§  Valid Driver’s License

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office environment, standard alternating sitting and standing, extensive computer use, frequent phone use.

 

 

Skills and Competencies:

 

  • Knowledge or payroll principles, practices, regulations and procedures.

  • Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal payroll and related tax laws, regulations and statutes.

  • Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.

  • Knowledge of payroll record keeping and reporting requirements and procedures.

  • Knowledge of basic methods and practices of software testing and implementation.

  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures.

  • Skill in evaluating and analyzing technical payroll activities and effectively working through process changes.

  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.

  • Skill in preparing detailed reports.

  • Skill in performing detailed computations.

  • Strong problem solving skills to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Must be self-motivated and outcome focused, with outstanding decision making skills

  • Proficient in MS Office applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Treats people with respect; keeps commitments, inspires the trust of others, works with integrity and ethically, upholds organizational values
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, analytical skills and attention to detail
