Job Description

Our Company: The Schilli Companies is a multi-division subsidiary of Daseke, Inc., a rapidly-growing, publicly-held consolidator of the flatbed and specialized freight market in North America. Our Opportunity: We currently have two truckline operations internships available at our terminal in Lafayette, Indiana that are open to local students seeking a well-rounded introduction to the operations side of the transportation industry. Interns will be exposed to a wide range of roles and responsibilities as they interact with customers, shippers, drivers, and other logistics personnel to see processes through from start to finish.

If making the world move while learning something new in a fast-paced environment every day where no two days are ever the same is what you're seeking, this may be the internship for you.

These internships are scheduled to begin as part-time roles during the spring semester of 2018. We expect that each intern will work 20 to 25 hours per week with those hours being a combination of afternoon / evening shifts on weekdays in addition to some weekend work. The exact work schedule will be flexible and open to discussion prior to the internship start date to accommodate class schedules and pre-planned time away from campus. High-performing interns will be given the opportunity to extend their internship into the summer months full-time. Full-time hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.

Job Requirements

Our Ideal Candidate: The best fit for this position will have the following qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program or a recent college graduate (graduation date of Spring 2017 or later); Business, logistics, operations, and social sciences majors preferred, but all majors considered


  • Previous experience in an office environment and/or in the transportation industry helpful, but not required


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid basic computer skills with the ability to type at 45 words per minute or higher

  • Intermediate-level knowledge or higher of Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Highly organized
  • Attentive to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks by level of importance
  • Able to focus on current task and filter out distractions
  • Patient with others, especially those who are upset
  • Able to remain calm in a fast-paced, sometimes high stress environment
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn about the transportation industry



  • Able to sit upright at assigned workstation for entire work day
  • Able to write and type for communication and data entry purposes for entire work day
  • Able to listen to others and speak clearly very frequently in order to communicate effectively with drivers, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Able to stoop and bend over somewhat frequently for filing duties
