Job Description

Responsible for transporting and assisting persons served in a community based setting.  This position has a split shift.  2.5 hours in the morning and 2.5 hours in the evening.

Position Duties:

1. Provide safe transportation for consumers as scheduled.
2. Plan transportation routes to insure most economical use of time and destination accuracy.
3. Perform daily maintenance checks on vehicle. Submit recommendations for repair and/or maintenance needs to management.
4. Complete all vehicle-related documentation as required.
5. Required to participate in annual updates of CPR, First Aid training and Recipient Rights training.
6. Maintain quality and integrity of service.
7. Perform all duties to the standards established by the organization and all applicable funding sources or regulatory bodies.
8. Perform other reasonable duties as required.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate or GED.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year experience driving multiple passenger van. Excellent driving record. Experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities or chronic mental illness a plus.KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES: Excellent driving record. Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to read a map. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Good vision. Frequently required to sit, talk and hear. Constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel and handle vehicle or operate controls and reach with hands and arms. Required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and walk.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Required to work with people with disabilities. Must exhibit patience, tolerance and positive attitude. 
MACHINES/EQUIPMENT: Must be able to operate a large van and minivan vehicle (15 passenger minimum)
WORKING CONDITIONS: External work environment. Daily contact with public requiring courtesy, discretion and sound judgment. 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Chauffeurs license. Possess proof of insurance and driving record acceptable to organizations insurance carrier. Drug screening is required. Ability to work flexible work schedule. Annual criminal background check may be required of employees serving mental health trainees within mental health services programs.
