Universal Laser Systems (ULS) in Scottsdale, AZ has an opening for a Mechanical Engineer within the new product development department. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starting and dynamic engineer interested in creating innovative solutions in a fast-moving multi-disciplinary environment.

This position will work with a small team of scientists and engineers to develop laser material processing systems which are capable of cutting, marking, and engraving a wide variety of materials.

To be effective, the candidate will possess the following abilities:

  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Generate creative solutions to a wide variety of engineering problems
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and plan effectively
  • An aptitude for working under pressure and meeting deadlines
  • On a daily basis, this position will be responsible for managing, planning, and executing a variety of tasks with minimal supervision. Among them:
  • Mechanical design of parts and sub-assemblies for laser material processing equipment
  • Building and testing of prototypes
  • Creating and checking drawings of fellow mechanical engineers
  • Working with outside vendors to source components and services as needed
  • Coordinate with manufacturing for assembly procedures and fixturing design

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • 3-5 years of experience in engineering
  • Proficient in using CAD software--SolidWorks preferred-- to design mechanical parts, assemblies, and drawings
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience using SolidWorks (part design, sheet-metal design, assembly, simulation, and CAM)
  • Experience utilizing GD&T
  • Knowledge in the area of optics, optical design, and packaging
  • Proficiency in basic electronics, wiring, and packaging
  • Basic technical computing (MATLAB, Python, C, C++, Java, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience in building mechanical and electro-mechanical components
  • Experience using laser processing equipment
