Sr. Systems Engineer - Akron, OH

Our client is a growing Managed Service Provider based in Akron, OH. The are seeking to add an accomplished Sr. Systems Engineer to their team.

Key objectives to be met by the person in this role:

  • Be a leader while working on projects and assist other engineers from a technical perspective
  • Support sales process as a technical engineer able to identify current issues and design and present solutions, including defining costs and project plans for new and existing customers.
  • Design systems (hardware, software, and network components to meet client needs.
  • Build systems according to specified design and deploy to client or hosted environment.
  • Provide feedback to the service manager and project manager on project process and results for potential improvement.
  • Meet assigned performance metrics.  Utilization goal of 85% of time spent on client work, unless otherwise changed by the Service Manager.
  • Train and develop support engineers

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical Certifications:  Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE); Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA)
  • Minimum six (6) years in systems management and support
  • Ability to plan work and communicate with key client personnel on expectations and status
  • Ability to work in a defined change control process
  • Have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in an information technology related field

Common tasks which employee must be able to perform include:

  • When not working on project work or proactive maintenance, maintain utilization goals by working on Level 2 or Level 3 technical support issues and perform needed technical tasks to resolve the issue.
  • Analyze information to determine, recommend and plan installation of a new system or modification of an existing system.
  • Consult with customers or other departments on project status, proposals and technical issues such as infrastructure system design and maintenance.
  • Provide advice on project costs, design concepts, or design changes.
  • Document design specifications, installation instructions, and other system-related information.
  • Train level 1 engineers and direct them in the methods to resolve system or user issues on completed or in-progress projects.
  • Be a leader in tracking hours accurately
  • Document system configurations and changes
  • Build new systems at the server and client level, and network components (e.g. firewall, switch)
  • Reconfigure network devices as needed (wireless, network, switches)
  • Be able to deploy systems with security best practices
  • Perform upgrades to software and hardware
  • Detection and removal of network wide virus outbreaks
  • Perform Backup and Restore of data at the server or file level
  • Migrate data and applications to new or upgraded environments
  • Work with third party vendors as needed to complete tasks
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • ConnectWise and supporting apps and report tools
  • Monitoring Tools such as Automate and Logic Monitor
  • Microsoft tools such as process monitor, task manager, event viewers, etc.
  • Anti-virus and anti-malware tools
  • ScreenConnect or LogMeIn for remote access
  • Remote Desktop Protocol for server access
  • Laptop PC and Mobile Phone
