The American Express Information Security Team is searching for a Senior  Linux Administrator (Security Analyst) to join their growing team in Phoenix, AZ.  Relocation assistance is available.

About This Role & Program:

The Information Security Specialist is an integral member of the Information Security – Operations and Reporting program responsible for support, development, troubleshooting, and evaluation of the Information Security Data Warehouse to drive efficiency, product optimization, and new functionality.  The Operations and Reporting team develops and maintains an end-to-end Information Security Data Warehouse (ISDW) and business intelligence program which will allow Information Security teams to better quantify, investigate and understand trends in risk on American Express (AXP) systems.  The Operations and Reporting team will employ tools which will provide storage and retention capabilities sufficient to store 13 months of pertinent data utilizing ETL and streaming capabilities to ingest and analyze data in a manner allowing generation of operational reporting to measure, detect and reduce threats to the American Express environment. The day-to-day support, monitoring, alerting, and overall maintenance of the ISDW systems and tools are critical functions for the team.



Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve failed processes on DASD, Hadoop, Isilon, Linux, SQL Server, & Windows
  • Write and troubleshoot Linux and Windows Shell Scripts
  • Configure and deploy VM resources using AXP approved tools and utilities
  • Complete data flows for firewall rules
  • Perform data extraction from SQL Server, HAWQ, Hive, X15 to support audit/expedited requests
  • Leverage NoSQL, Hive, Sqoop, Flume, Yarn, and other Hadoop ecosystem utilities for data movement
  • Support and reengineer Python scripts (Konflux)
  • Actively perform VMware administration tasks
  • Evaluate architecture requirements and designs with ability to organize inter-dependent tasks and estimate the required effort and timelines
  • Create innovative solutions leveraging the Hadoop ecosystem, and involving different technologies/products; develop prototypes, proposals and provide product recommendations
  • Develop systems that conform to architectural guidelines and QA policies and procedures
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in data warehouse against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure
  • Learn and follow documented processes and procedures while identifying and implementing improvements in such processes
  • Provide analytical services and solutions for specialized, customer-specific business needs
  • Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported, and resolved in a timely manner
  • Recognize and deal appropriately with confidential and sensitive information
  • Interact with vendor support to expedite ticket resolution and escalate when necessary
  • Provide recommendations for application design and implement technical solutions
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise in data warehousing processes

Job Requirements

What You Bring to the Role:

  • 5+ years of experience administering/supporting Linux OS, Windows OS, and/or MS SQL Server
  • 5+ years of production support experience with SQL Server, Greenplum, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
  • Knowledge of server hardware and configuration (e.g. CPU cores and speed, memory size and speed, RAID array controllers, and NIC Bonding)
  • Broad understanding of Hadoop ecosystem and distributed cluster environment, with exposure to Elasticsearch, Spark, Kibana, Cassandra, Spring, SolR, Hive, Pig, Avro, Hue is highly desired
  • Expert in SQL scripting, stored procedures, and construction of highly complex queries
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems and associated systems tools and scripting languages
  • Proven expertise in at least one of these programming languages: Scala/Java/Python
  • Knowledge of big-data architectures including MPP and Hadoop is preferred
  • Strong understanding of MapReduce programming paradigm is preferred
  • Expert in analyzing data to understand data types, related data, and transformation processes
  • Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP based networks is desired
  • Experience administering & supporting Cisco UCS and Cisco DASD is a plus
  • Experience supporting ESXi, VMware, vRO, Vranger, Docker, and Puppet is a plus
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools Ambari, Ganglia, Tembria, and Nagios is a plus
  • Expert in SQL scripting, stored procedures, and construction of highly complex queries
  • Demonstrated track-record of success in working in project teams to support the build and/or upgrade of enterprise scale tools and applications
  • Understanding of Change/Incident Management processes and procedures
  • Strong work prioritization, planning, and organizational skills
  • Information Security domain knowledge is preferred (e.g. tools and technologies)
  • Understanding of data warehouse approaches, best practices, and OLTP/OLAP databases
  • Knowledge of the latest technology trends in Big Data, Hadoop (and other NoSQL databases), Business Intelligence, Analytics and Data Visualization
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with ability to clearly articulate solution alternatives
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in an Agile development environment (e.g. Scrum)
  • Be able to collaborate effectively, work closely within a coordinated team environment, and maintain composure while dealing with time sensitive deadlines
  • In-depth experience with desktop software and office automation tools
  • A self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • In depth knowledge of the implementation of technology policies and procedures
