Job Description

Our client has an immediate opening for a passionate, organized and extremely tech savvy individual with strong Accounting and Financial Management skills to make a difference in a fast-paced Organization. Successful candidate will have a proven track record of process improvement, systems development and leadership skills. Experience in the non-profit environment is preferred

 

This position will oversee daily accounting operations, annual audits and budget, general accounting, financial analysis, cash flow monitoring, oversee monthly/quarterly financial reports and reporting to the Board of Directors. This position is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with expertise in financial management and a passion for non-profit organizations.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, experience developing and monitoring budgets, and working with grants and/or contracts

  • Supervisory experience, advanced accounting skills, ability to analyze patterns and trends

  • Monitors and tracks revenues and expenditure of funds as they relate to the budget/grants, coordinates with program managers to analyze variances and submits budget amendments to grant providers as needed.

  • Completes monthly quarterly and annual budget and financial reports for federal, state, county local and private grantors in accordance with GAAP and grant requirements

  • Supervise the training and development of at least 2 accounting staff, including providing the staff with the necessary guidance and training to fulfill their job responsibilities and giving them regular feedback on their job performance

  • Responsible for performing and overseeing various tasks related to the month end close, including booking journal entries, preparing variance analysis and reconciling balance sheet accounts

  • Work extensively with the Financial, Planning and Analysis group during month end close to explain forecast variances and unusual trends Monthly close, year-end close, financial statement preparation

  • Budgeting and forecasting

  • Responsible for working with independent auditor on annual financial statement audits

  • Provide advice and guidance as necessary in preparing and analyzing timely and accurate financial reports and executing appropriate responsive actions

  • Issue timely, accurate and complete internal financial statements

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts

  • Prepare reports for government, corporate, and foundation grants

  • Assist in the preparation of the corporate annual report

  • Research and recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance  

  • CPA (active or inactive)

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • 5-10 years of hands-on accounting/financial management experience with 3-5 years at a manager-level preferred

  • Solid understanding of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial statements

  • Ability to design and create financial reports and analyses for executive team decision making and program management

  • Strong experience with Excel and experience of Financial Edge preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting rules (FASB/GAAP); understanding of 990 requirements

  • Ability to prioritize and work accurately with close attention to detail; strong time management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and professionally within the finance team and other departments

  • Initiative in identifying and addressing ways to improve the overall financial processes of the organization
