NIGHT SHIFT SUPERVISOR
Direct, supervise, and coordinate production in assigned area through assignment of duties and personal skills; ensure that production safety, quality and volume meet production goals. Understand product and customer requirements and key production tasks.
Ø Plan, supervise, direct and engage in daily production operations and anticipate production problems, (i.e., material shortages, equipment malfunctions, rush orders, etc.) such that loss of work hours is minimized and production and quality objectives are achieved.
Ø Coordinate and supervise activities of production personnel by determining specific work assignments.
Ø Utilize skills, work hours, materials and workflow to achieve production and quality objectives; exchange timely information with other supervisors on interdepartmental product flow and workforce needs.
Ø Instruct, train, orient, motivate and otherwise assist employees so that safety, quality and production objectives are achieved.
Ø Ensure all work is performed according to standard work instructions and completed in conformance with Canam’s safety principle guidelines and any other related codes, guidelines or standards established by a manufacturer or regulating body.
Ø Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies, programs and procedures.
Ø Routinely interface with maintenance supervisors and safety coordinator as necessary.
Ø Participate in the selection/interview process to fill worker positions, appraise employee performance, addressing complaints and disciplinary issues, and resolving problems.
Ø Ensure employees receive proper training on company equipment and work environment is safe by following prescribed Canam’s safety principle guidelines.
Ø Provide information or otherwise assist others in their efforts to reduce cost, simplify work or make improvements in methods, processes or equipment.
Ø Responsible for the implementation of all safety policies and procedures, including housekeeping practices, workplace inspections, awareness of hazardous conditions; respond to employee injuries, issuing medical authorization forms, investigating accident causes and recommending means to prevent accident reoccurrence.
Ø Keep employees informed of the company rules and regulations, health and safety programs and results, as well as production and quality expectations. Issue warnings and other approved disciplinary measures when necessary. Encourage employee communication and endorse an open door policy.
Ø Maintain professionalism and stay abreast of new developments through publications, vendors and in-house management training.
Ø Recommend overtime and control costs.
Ø Perform other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
Ø Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
Ø Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in the steel industry preferred.
Ø Lean manufacturing experience (preferred).
Ø Have received leadership/management skills training, safety training, etc. (preferred).
Ø Possess computer skills to include: Gmail and MS Excel, Word or Google Doc, Sheets (minimum).
Ø Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to production or productivity problems.
Ø Able to effectively manage time including work schedules, events, programs and other activities.
Ø Possess the ability to communicate information and ideas effectively
