Senior Financial Accountant, Budget and Planning

Job Purpose

Participates in the budget and financial planning and analysis functions for the Company. Provides analytical support for both budget and financial planning departments to include variance analysis, preparation of key performance metrics and reconciliations.  Assists in the preparation of the annual general expense budget and financial plan processes.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support FP&A (financial planning and analysis) role for variance analysis, business analytics, and financial plan.
  • Analyze and report on budget and planning variances.
  • Maintain effective relationships with all departments and subsidiaries to ensure expense and financial plan information is presented accurately.
  • Responsible for fixed asset accounting, lease accounting and annual personal property tax returns. 
  • Initiate and prepare ad-hoc reports and report development to support variance analysis.
  • Communicate with other departments to report on budget variance explanations.
  • Support transition to budget and planning module in Oracle from Excel-based models.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Possess a strong knowledge of GAAP basis accounting requirements.
  • Possess strong analytical and quantitative skills along with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn and use financial reporting software such as Oracle, HFM, FAS and Lawson.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must be flexible, deadline-focused, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Possess strong organizational skills, independent thought, and excellent problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with associates at all levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to meet job requirements with a positive and productive attitude.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum 5 years of financial reporting or corporate budgeting experience required.
  • Insurance or financial services experience preferred.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred.
