CHARACTERISTICS OFWORK
Under the supervision of the Children's Services Director, the Children's Services Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, monitoring, record keeping, reporting, guiding, training, supervising, evaluating, supporting, and collaborating to ensure the effective operation of the delivery services in the Education/Early Childhood Program, to include Early Head Start .
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with two (2) years experience of having worked with preschool children and families in a child development program. Ability to communicate effectively.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
- pass Criminal Background and Child Abuse Central Registry Checks.
- meet State health requirements.
SUPERVISION AND CONTROL
The Children's Services Specialist is directly responsible to the Children's Services Director, who is responsible to the Vice President, Head Start and Early Childhood Programs. The Children's Services Specialist will be evaluated semi-annually by the Children's Services Director. The evaluation will be conducted through a process of performance monitoring and progress reviews. The evaluation will be reviewed and approved by the Vice President, Head Start and Early Childhood Programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the Agency.
PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Collects data and participates in writing and updating the Education and Early Childhood Division work plans.
Request. needed professional services, supplies, and equipment for children enrolled in the Education/Early Childhood program.
Participates in team planning sessions.
Communicating
Assists with the negotiation of contracts and other agreement with professionals.
Provides curriculum materials for parents and staff.
Serves on committees, boards and other organizations, that have a concern for and/or provide services to children and families.
Prepares and submits reports as required.
Recruits volunteers and in-kind contributions.
TRAINING
Assists with the assessment of training needs, development of training designs and conducts training for the children services division staff, parents, and others when necessary.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, parent meetings, and other program activities.
Attends workshops, conferences, and training sessions
MONITORING
Monitors all assigned classrooms on a regular and/or unannounced basis in accordance with developmentally appropriate practice guidelines and the division work plans.
Provides follow-up services based on the assessment of needs.
Performs management oversight monitoring of assigned centers.
RECORDKEEPING AND REPORTING
Checks, verifies, and maintains confidential and other required records in accordance with the division work plans.
Checks children's records and provides follow-up with staff to ensure compliance.
Assists with developing program schedules, record keeping, and reporting systems.
Makes home visits in accordance with the division work plan.
SUPERVISING AND EVALUATING
Provides input in developing job descriptions and performance evaluation plans for classroom staff in the Education/Early Childhood program.
Participates in the performance evaluation of the classroom staff as assigned.
Participates in the screening and interview process of classroom staff when necessary.
Serves on program committees and committees and boards of other organizations affiliated with children and families.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties and assignments as directed by the Children's Services Director.
