POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES In order of importance, list the primary responsibilities critical to the performance of the position. Please include actual tasks and/or essential responsibilities that highlight accountability and level of judgment required.
• Apply chemical engineering principles, modeling tools, and experimental skills using data-rich laboratory instrumentation to improve process understanding for trickle bed catalyst and operations.
• Support data rich experimentation on pressurize / catalytic reactions.
• Contribute in the design of catalyst and hydrogenation methodologies
• Optimize hydrogenation process for trickle bed reactors.

  • Support the development of new flow technology for gas / liquid heterogeneous catalysis pressure reaction system. Apply chemical engineering principles, modeling, and lab-scale data-rich experimentation to support development and screening for suitable hydrogenation catalyst for trickle bed. Interact with a broader team of external collaborators, including catalyst developing companies and other pharmaceutical companies. The focus of the work will be development of lab screening conditions for evaluation of catalyst in different trickle bed reactor set up, and processes.Work location is at the Center for Pharmaceutical Sciences in the department of Chemical and Research Development (CRD) in Groton, CT

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
  • PharmSci Chemical Reasech and Development (CRD) group.
  • CRD Hydrogenation lab and PGS PDC collegues
  • CRD FAST (Flexible API Supply Technologies) team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • MS, PhD in Chemical Engineering will be preferred or BS in Chemical Engineering with some of relevant experience. Organic Chemist with hydrogenation experience will be also considered

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
  • Required Skills:
  • Excellent knowledge of good laboratory practices. Excellent knowledge of chemical engineering principles including: reaction kinetics, reactor design, chemical thermodynamics, heat and mass transport. Good understanding of engineering statistics, modeling and simulation.
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with gas / liquid pressure reactions
  • Experience with heterogeneous catalysis
  • Experience with continuous manufacturing processes
  • Working knowledge of reaction modeling, property prediction, and simulation computational tools including.
  • Some working knowledge of UPLC, MS, and NMR
  • Working knowledge of application of in-situ analysis tools to process understanding including: FTIR, FBRM, UV/Vis
  • A some foundational understanding of organic chemistry
PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment performing experiments in a laboratory fume hood. Ability to perform complex data analysis.
