The Posting Representative performs cash transaction and payment posting; and balances, records and prepares bank deposits in a timely, accurate manner.
Uses HealthQuest to calculate the patient and insurance balances when posting payments and denials.
Posts insurance denials with associated reasons for insurance remittance advices for follow up by the disputed claims staffs.
Additionally, the incumbent correlates, edits and ensures that all data is received and processed correctly.
Skills and/or Abilities:
Processes credit/debit card transactions;
Processes payroll deduction payments;
Processes denials, entering the appropriate transaction code in order to distribute the denial to the appropriate Patient Accounting or Disputed Claims Management team;
Follows-up on insufficient fund checks/debit transactions;
Researches and resolves unapplied cash and misapplied payment requests;
Verifies electronic fund transfers;
Contacts payers for missing EOBs and ERAs.
High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Associate degree in accounting or business administration highly desired.
Data entry skills (50-60 keystrokes per minutes). Past work experience of at least one year within a hospital or clinic environment, an insurance company, managed care organization or other financial service setting, performing payment posting, medical claims processing, and/or similar task is required.
Knowledge of insurance and governmental programs, regulations and billing processes (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security Disability, Champus, Supplemental Security Income Disability, etc.), managed care contracts and coordination of benefits is highly desirable.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical record coding (ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS), and basic computer skills are highly desirable.
