Job Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant position:

As a Staff Accountant at this company, you will be part of a team of approximately 12 staff level accountants reporting to a senior level manager, you will be responsible for maintaining financial reports and general ledgers, preparing and analyzing budgets and verifying accounts payable.

Specific duties in the Staff Accountant role include:

  • Achieving accounting operational objectives preparing and completing action plans, resolving problems, completing audits, identifying trends, determining system improvements and implementing changes
  • Ensuring an accurate and timely monthly and year-end close along with the timely reporting of all monthly financial information
  • consolidation, and evaluation of financial data as well as preparing special reports
  • Supervise and direct AP, AR and general accounting functions
  • Confirming financial status monitoring revenue and expenses, coordinating the collection,
  • Working with direct reports to establish performance goals and objectives for each year as well as monitoring and advising on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
  • Maintaining financial security by establishing internal controls

Specific requirements for the Staff Accountant include:

  • Bachelor’s degree of Accounting or a related field, or equivalent business experience, CPA preferred
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance; hands-on accounting managerial experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of accounting processes and procedures
  • Ability to lead, train and develop staff
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced working knowledge of Excel
  • Ability to work efficiently independently as well as part of a team
  • Public accounting experience, a plus
  • Proficiency in large company ERP systems

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT:

  • Track the compilation of project costs included in fixed asset accounts and close out the accounts into identifiable assets once the related projects have been completed
  • Record transactions to ensure proper expense or capitalization in accordance with GAAP and the company’s policy
  • Prepare journal entries to support the timely preparation of financial statements
  • Assist accounts receivable in customer account collections and resolving customer account issues
  • Ensure general ledger accounts and bank statements are reconciled in a timely manner

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards/Oracle ERP system and/or BNA fixed asset system a plus
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to professional integrity
  • Able to execute on multiple tasks, deadlines and priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on confidentiality, tact and diplomacy
