Material Planner

The Material Planner is responsible to fully manage production materials throughout the supply chain and manufacturing processes including out sourced services for assigned programs, components and or suppliers. To ensure that the manufacturing operation has the right balance of components/raw material necessary to meet the build schedule and achieve targets set forth in the supply chain scorecard.
Key Accountabilities:

  • Review, analyze and schedule as required within Material Requirements Planning (MRP) recommendations to produce supplier releases (firm and planned) for assigned production materials.
  • Assists in implementation of lean concepts for replenishment based upon consumption.
  • Responsible for inventory level and accuracy of the assigned products; investigate all inventory discrepancies for assigned parts/programs; including cycle counting and reconciliation.
  • Input optimum planning parameters into MRP (i.e., lead-times, lot sizes, standard packs, safety stock, bill of material (BOM) values exploding properly, etc.)
  • Maintains accurate Blanket Order pricing, negotiated by Corporate Commodity Manager, and ensures Price Change Notifications (PCNs) are received, updated with advice to internal plant controls. Manages Receipts Not Invoiced (RNI) and updates payables system for invoice discrepancies related to assigned products.
  • Monitor supplier compliance of our requirements and communicates any supplier discrepancies to suppliers. Work with suppliers to determine root cause for discrepancies and ensure appropriate corrective actions identified and implemented.
  • Coordinate engineering changes and launch plans between production and suppliers to avoid obsolete inventory and ensure new product availability.
  • Coordinate expedites of production material from suppliers as needed.
  • Coordinates transportation lane assignments and minimize border crossing issues for assigned materials; i.e., ensure North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) supplier forms are on file, commercial invoices are completed correctly, etc.
  • Minimum: Knowledge and skills typically acquired through at least three years’ experience utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software with in production planning and materials management.
  • Preferred: experienced in the specific ERP software used in plant, planning experience in the automotive industry, knowledgeable in Covisint, Ford Direct Data Link (DDL), Chrysler Supplier Material Tracking System (SMART) and/or GM SupplyPower.

Education

  • Minimum: Associate’s degree in Supply Chain Management or similarly accredited two-year program or related work experience.
  • Preferred: Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or related work experience in a tier one automotive work environment.
