Tokio Marine HCC is hiring a Risk Modeler (Meteorologist) for their location in Metro Atlanta area (Duluth, GA). As a Risk Modeler you will utilize your meteorological expertise in catastrophe risk modeling joining a bright team of experts in risk modeling, analytics, research and development.

Catastrophe Model Development: Apply meteorological expertise in catastrophe risk modeling research and development for atmospheric perils (tropical cyclone, extratropical cyclone, severe thunderstorm, etc.) and related models, e.g. crop modeling. Develop catastrophe model event footprints, stochastic event sets, and pre-simulated sets including spatiotemporal clustering. Develop vulnerability and financial modules including contract/treaty calculation, aggregation, and loss distribution metrics and blending of multiple models.
Forecasting: Tropical cyclone seasonal forecasting as well as live event response forecasting and risk analysis.
Research and Catastrophe Model Evaluations: Develop benchmarks and evaluate models performance overall and for various model components including hazard, vulnerability, and loss validations. Actively research climate change and other new developments in the field.
Training and Collaboration: As an expert in the field, proactively share expertise and research on various research and relevant topics via training and collaboration with the broader Tokio Marine Group.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, similar field or equivalent work experience.
A successful candidate ideally will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant and progressive professional experience in Catastrophe Modeling.
General knowledge of P&C (re)insurance industry and application in catastrophe modeling for risk management and underwriting.
Deep knowledge of statistics, simulation, & stochastic modeling techniques
Well versed with climate change state of knowledge.
Experience with catastrophe modeling and risk analytics.
Flexibility and a willingness to learn.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Sound analytical skills, as well as strong decision-making and problem-solving aptitude.
Must be an exceptional communicator and able to make connections externally and internally.
Proficient programming skills in Python, R, or similar preferred.
