Responsible for setting up the patient in the exam room, perform and document : Vital signs (manual BPs), EKGs, reconciliation of medications, chief complaint/reason for visit, interview patient regarding any changes in patient’s health since last visit and assist the provider with minor surgical procedures and preparing other medications for injections.
Also responsible for phone messages, faxes, and Medical Reception responsibilities as needed.
1-3 years of prior experience in ambulatory care preferred. Minimum of one years’ experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting required.
Able to handle high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions required.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Must be a graduate of a Medical Assistant program, post- secondary, accredited by a recognized national accrediting agency. Program must contain a minimum of 600 hours of instruction and special training around medication administration as per the NJ Board of Medical Examiners required.
All Medical Assistants must maintain active National Certification with a certifying agency approved by NJ (i.e. American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT), National Health Career Association (NHA) or American Medical Technologist (AMT), Board of Medical Examiners(BME), required.
Current American Heart Association BLS for the Healthcare Provider certification preferred.
Certification in Phlebotomy ASCP preferred.
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the medical office environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing and walking. This position also requires long periods of telephone work. This position frequently lifts 25-50 lbs and occasionally lifts 50-100 lbs.
