Overview:
Focal point for sales (west region) for all commission related topics.  Advocate for sales while ensuring commissions run with strong audit and compliance, and is executed based on comp plans and policy.  This role develops, implements and deploys process and tools related to the calculation of sales commissions. Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of commission calculations as outlined in the plan, and in accordance with policy. Calculates commission/incentive award payments to sales employees based on commission plan provisions. Investigates and resolves commission claims and account reconciliation issues. Interfaces with other job functions in the preparation of Sales commission reports, using reporting and analytics for presentations and recommendations for sales and/or finance management.  Participate in company projects related to commissions.  This role is highly visible and has the potential to drive positive changes within the commission team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring that all aspects of commission (for assigned sales area) are covered in a timely, accurate, and methodical fashion. 
  • Manage your overall commission ownership such that you avoid late commission submission, and avoid escalations to sales or commission leadership.
  • Build a strong and trusting relationship with sales leadership where sales feel comfortable with your support.  Having a trusting relationship goes a very long way!
  • Maintains and executes processes and tools for sales commissions calculation and payment support
  • Calculates commissions for plans in accordance with plan documentation and established policy
  • Conducts weekly / monthly audit and reconciliation of sales commission data to ensure values are accurate and being paid according to plan. 
  • Collects and consolidates information to support investigation and resolution of commission claims and account reconciliations in an accurate and very timely fashion. 
  • Prepares commission and payment reports for review by operational and sales leadership
  • Coordinates with employees outside of the commission team when needed in support of your overall management of commissions and your sales coverage area.
  • Prepares commission and payment reports for review by operational and sales leadership
  • Reviews information and makes changes and updates to data and configuration of sales compensation tools and systems within limited parameters
  • Communicates issues to stakeholders in a timely and concise fashion.
  • implements specified changes to data, content, and systems to improve data quality and operational efficiency
  • Be a thought leader on overall commission improvements for management.  Think of ways to make commission life easier and present well thought through ideas to management.

  
Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Management or equivalent
  • Typically 10+ years’ experience working in a high tech company
  • 5+ years in sales commission experience preferred

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive experience designing and developing business-wide sales commission operations systems and solutions
  • Excellent analytical, statistical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Very detail-oriented, strong business acumen.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Has a proactive mentality on process improvements and issue resolutions.
  • Extensive expertise in sales commission plans, tools, systems and practices and their application to business-wide issues and architecture
  • Evaluating, selecting, and creating forms of forecasting and planning methodologies to be used across the business to develop guidance for updating and deploying sales commissions tools and system enhancements
  • History of innovation with examples of developing new processes and practices for sales commissions operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Mastery in English and local language.
  • Ability to articulate and communicate well with sales and sales leadership.  Soft skills are very important for this role.
  • Ability to effectively communicate sales commission operational architectures, plans, proposals, and results, and negotiate options at the business unit and executive levels.
