Facilities & Services (F&S) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications for an Accounting Associate. Under administrative direction, provides specialized analysis, reporting and reconciliation in the management and/or administration of Facilities & Services (F&S) Financial Operations. Supports, as needed, areas of service rate calculation, accounting process, reporting and reconciliation, and budget forecasting. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform analysis and provide support in the calculation, review and monitoring of F&S service activity rates for compliance with University policy. This may include preparing break even analysis and cost center financial reviews. 
2. Conduct analysis and provide specialized reporting for various F&S business units. This may include analyzing labor efficiencies factoring in volume and mix changes, inventories, cost of goods sold, and cost of labor sold, as well as evaluating results against budgets and forecasts to identify trends, errors, anomalies and omissions. 
3. Assist in developing detailed financial reports and forecasts on monthly or other periodic basis. Use independent professional judgment to identify trends, errors, anomalies, and omissions. 
4. Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities. 
5. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or related field or Possession of a current registration as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, or a valid License to practice Public Accounting. Or Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field. Per SUCSS specification.

Required Work Experience:
Two years of professional level accounting experience.

Preferred Work Experience:
Five years or more of professional level accounting experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Thorough knowledge of the theories, principles, methods, and procedures of cost accounting.
2. Experience and aptitude calculating, reviewing and monitoring rates (ie billing/costing rates).
3. Ability to prepare, review and interpret complex accounting records and reports.
4. In-depth knowledge of financial forecasting and allocation methodologies.
5. Experience and aptitude in reconciling financial accounts.
6. Ability to deal tactfully with customers and stakeholders.
7. Demonstrated proficiency in advanced data extraction techniques (such as ODBC, SQL, etc).

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:
This is a full-time Civil Service Accounting Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after July 1, 2019. Salary is commensurate with experience.
