Information Technology Technical Associate (Applications Developer) - Student Affairs Technology (Job ID #99271)

Job Summary:

UIC Student Affairs Technology is seeking an IT Technical Associate (Applications Developer). Under minimal supervision this position will lead projects in Database, Web & Application Design & Development Team, responsible for database design & administration, website design & development, application development and production for units within Student Affairs. Supervises development Graduate Assistant(s) and student employee(s). 

This position is responsible for servers running database infrastructure, website test and production environments. 

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties):

  • Supervises Graduate Assistants, Graduate Hourly, and student staff responsible for development, database, and data analysis needs in unit.

Web and Mobile Applications Development:
  • Designs and develops custom web-based database-driven applications in ASP.NET Web Forms and MVC (C#), JavaScript Frameworks (Node.js, Express.js, Vue.js), and Bootstrap.
  • Design and develops Android and iOS mobile applications. 
  • Utilizes one or more SDLC (Software Development LifeCycle) methodologies.
  • Manages system changes (version control), documents user requirements and system design, creates training manuals and troubleshooting guides, conduct user training.

Database Development and Analytics:
  • Participate in data architecture definition, design and implementation.
  • Develop, implement and maintain database tables, indexes, stored procedures, views and functions to support development projects.
  • Design, build, automate and maintain extract-transformation-load (ETL) processes.
  • Develops and maintains local data warehouse.
  • Responsible for implementation of data dashboards for data analysis in Tableau.
  • Analyze data needs for SA Units and provide solutions.

Website Development:
  • Responsible for all websites in Student Affairs. Designs and develops websites for 30 areas within Student Affairs.
  • Interfaces with campus Red (WordPress) network, collaborating with campus partners on enhancements for campus-wide WordPress multi-site.
  • Creates and maintains websites within university guidelines and accessibility laws and frameworks.
  • Provides oversight on user experience using up-to-date UX standards.

Staff/Project Management:
  • Plans, assigns and reviews work of staff to ensure that group and business objectives are met. Hires, trains, develops and manages staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
  • Acts as project manager for database, website and application projects. Provides agendas, timelines, and reports on progress by staff.

Information Technology Server Installation / Support:
  • Installs and maintains web and database servers throughout Student Affairs.
  • Administers SQL Servers, IIS Servers and Apache Servers.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
2. A minimum of 1 year professional IT Development experience which includes experience in developing and/or modifying new and existing applications, including requirement analysis, design, code, test, debug, implementation and maintenance.
