Job Description

Director of Marketing

As the Director of Marketing, you will oversee all marketing activities for our entire organization, including events, membership, online learning, registries, and consumer advocacy for education, patient services, practice management, research, and publications functions. Reporting to the chief executive officer (CEO) and supported by a membership and digital marketing assistant, you will drive yearly planning for marketing activities, write compelling copy, and create and execute integrated marketing campaigns.

This is a hands-on leadership role that will require you to lead the strategic management and positioning of our portfolio of products while also moving the ball forward each day on promotions, campaigns, and outreach. You will work proactively, using the annual strategic plan as the basis to develop marketing plans. You will directly engage with colleagues to develop messaging and promotional plans for our broad portfolio of products, integrating member interests and the user experience to ensure that all marketing campaigns are effective.

American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) is the premier nonprofit organization representing professionals dedicated to treating female pelvic floor disorders. Founded in 1979, AUGS represents more than 1,900 members, including practicing physicians, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, nurses and health care professionals, and researchers from many disciplines. As the leader in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS), AUGS promotes the highest quality patient care through excellence in education, research, and advocacy. For members and constituents, AUGS is the primary source and home of clinical and scientific information and education for FPMRS.

Responsibilities of the Director of Marketing

  • Develop a marketing and communications plan for the society detailing the needs of all departments with timelines and costs associated with the deliverables.
  • Plan and direct or coordinate public relations and marketing policies and programs for the society.
  • Develop and manage internal marketing and communications calendar.
  • Consult on marketing decisions, including product launches and branding. Establish and maintain website content standards, corporate style guide, and enforce brand standards and guidelines.
  • Create marketing materials for all AUGS products and events in consultation with team members.
  • Utilize analytics to drive strategic decision making. Establish and track metrics for measuring public relations, marketing, communications, and social media effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop public relations plans (e.g., Bladder Health Month, patient education, events) that support the organization’s goals and strategy.
  • Manage multiple and shifting deadlines, as well as occasional changes in priorities within a fast-paced environment.
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments and staff to develop positive and collaborative relationships.
  • Write promotional copy for the web, print, social media, and other digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the association to ensure customer segments, products, and services are presented accurately and consistently while being compelling and engaging.
  • Work with the director of membership and outreach to regularly update marketing copy on AUGS’ websites and assist in monitoring the presentation of website content so that it is consistent and meets AUGS standards.
  • Develop a department budget and conduct accurate forecasting.
  • Manage vendor relations, including creating specifications, assessing bids, negotiating prices, awarding contracts, establishing and meeting production timelines, evaluating proofs/press checks, monitoring workflow, overseeing production, and coordinating delivery/mailings.
  • Assist in generating revenue with sponsorship, exhibit, and course sales.

Job Requirements

Qualifications of the Director of Marketing

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in business, marketing, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in marketing and/or communications. Experience in a nonprofit setting is preferred. Familiarity with a medical or scientific community is preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple social media channels for an organization and/or public campaign. Knowledge of the latest digital and social media technology.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues to develop messaging.
  • Solid knowledge of website analytics tools like Google Analytics or Webtrends. Experience with Informz/Real Magnet bulk email system, iTunes podcasting, Vimeo, and Adobe Photoshop is preferred.
