Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Early On Special Education, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Ingham Intermediate School District, the Initial Service Coordinator shall provide child and family assessment, identify direct and indirect instructional services, family-centered services, and collaborative consultation with staff, families, agency personnel, community providers and administrators. Job Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in early childhood, special education or related school support area, such as a School Psychologist or School Social Worker.  A valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate in special education or early childhood preferred.

  • Three years of recent and relevant experience is required. Experience with direct service provision and service coordination in IDEA Part C early intervention programs (known as Early On in Michigan) or in special education is preferred.

  • Knowledge of special education and Early On rules, laws, and regulations, and ability to provide technical assistance to other staff.

  • Knowledge of all domains of typical and atypical child development to identify needs and develop interventions, and experience with evaluations to determine levels of development.

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with administrators, staff, agencies, medical providers, community providers, young children and families in the role of service coordinator.

  • Knowledge of family-centered services and practices to support and address family resources, needs, concerns and priorities, and ability to provide technical assistance to other staff.

  • Organizational ability, self-directedness, and initiative when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks.

  • Ability to lead, coordinate and make decisions and problem solve independently and collaboratively within a team of service providers in partnerships with the family.
