Facilities & Services (F&S) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications for a Financial Operations Coordinator - Accounting Associate. 

This position will primarily be responsible for the following activities for Facilities and Services: Direction and coordination of all financial aspects for over 200 active construction projects; coordination of budget preparation and entry into Banner, AiM and other subsidiary financial systems; direction and review of various financial, budget, and analytical reports; coordination of general accounting transactions; and supervision of F&S account reconciliations. This position may also participate in the service activity rate review process. He or she will set goals and objectives and supervise clerical and professional employees to provide timely and relevant financial statements, analyses, and other content for F&S business units and campus customers. He or she will report results to business unit managers and the senior management team at Facilities and Services. 


1. Provide leadership on all financial facets of the capital construction delivery process, including initiating and terminating Banner capital project funds, processing funding and expense transfers, encumbering construction and professional services contracts, reconciling project subsidiary records to the general ledger, and providing assistance to Project Managers, Planners and departmental contacts on relevant policy, procedure and best practice. 
2. Coordinate budget preparation and maintenance for F&S business units. 
3. Provide leadership and guidance to subordinates and schedule workloads accordingly. 
4. Partner with other F&S business units to develop and maintain core systems and applications used to operationalize the strategic mission. 
5. Exercise professional judgment and discretion in: 
  • Preparing, reviewing and analyzing consolidated financial statements for delivery on the Unit's website or other electronic systems.
  • Reconciling F&S financial accounts utilizing data from the University electronic data warehouse and other electronic systems.
  • Calculating, reviewing and monitoring F&S service activity rates for compliance with University policy.
6. Act as a liaison for F&S Financial Operations with other campus units, including University Office of Capital Programs and Real Estate Services, Office of Business and Financial Services and System Government Costing. 
7. Additional duties as assigned.
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

Preferred Education: 
Master's Degree in Accounting.

Required Work Experience:
7 years of experience in fiscal oversight or management accounting with construction project accounting.

Preferred Work Experience: 
1. Experience with project budget, funding, financial workflow and contractual processes such as pay applications and change orders. 
2. Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of University of Illinois systems or other large state university systems is preferred but not required.

This is a full-time Civil Service Accounting Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after July 8, 2019. Salary is commensurate with experience.
