Job Description

Campbell County Fiscal Court is accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant in the Planning and Zoning Department. This employee is responsible for professional customer service and for providing administrative, clerical and technical support to the Department.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: includes, but are not limited to:

  • Responds to members of the public/applicants seeking general information about zoning process including furnishing the appropriate application for a project;

  • Assists department staff with daily files for inspections and appointments, including processing paperwork for site visits as requested;

  • Receives and records all financial transactions;

  • Reviews records and reports submitted by applicants for accuracy and completion;

  • Assists with data collection and preparation of status reports, and records for the department;

  • Coordinates the timely preparation and distribution of meeting packets;

  • Records minutes for meetings as requested;

  • Obtains, distributes and processes the daily mail;

  • Prepares or composes on a frequent and regular basis, reports, recommendations, applications, plans, informational summaries, letters, compliance or other required documents;

  • Maintains general office supplies for the department

  • Coordinates regular maintenance of office equipment and facilities;

  • Represents the county at public meetings, public hearings, special committees, and other public and private boards and organizations as requested;

  • Provides in-person and telephone customer service determining the nature of business providing information and direction;

  • Adjusts inspection schedules based on inspector’s location, knowledge and experience to make efficient use of inspections; and

  • Assumes duties/responsibilities of coworkers and performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

  • Knowledge of community affairs, local committees and organizations;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to meet with and deal tactfully and courteously with employees, county officials, and the general public;

  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet Explorer;

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills;

  • Ability to read and interpret simple plans and maps;

  • Strong oral and written and communication skills;

  • Must be able to attend evening meetings; and

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job which include, but are not limited to, sitting, walking standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, climb or balance, and lift and/or move objects that weigh up to 25 pounds.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical and administrative office or equivalent experience, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.  An Associate’s Degree and knowledge of local government and land use planning, zoning, or environmental enforcement are preferred.
