Staff Accountant

Our client, a growing healthcare improvement company, is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join their Corporate Financial Services Unit in the Ballantyne area. This is a full-time, direct hire position with a fantastic company!

Major Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Perform month-end closing processes including account reconciliations, journal entries, allocations, account research and other supporting schedules to meet assigned deadlines
  • Analyze corporate SG&A expense; investigate trend variances to forecast
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts in compliance with SOX requirements
  • Responsible for adherence to compliance requirements for applicable regulations, internal controls and corporate policies and procedures
  • Preparation of timely and accurate financial schedules to assist company s SEC Financial Report team
  • Support, research and resolve financial inquiries from internal and external customers
  • Participate in year-end audit assistance, process improvement initiatives, staff training assistance, department meetings, and other ad-hoc projects and analysis

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • 2 years related experience; Prefer: 3 years related experience
  • Relevant accounting experience to include:
    • Month-end close cycle
    • General ledger accounting systems such as Workday, Lawson, etc.
    • Preparing and posting standard, non-standard and adjusting journal entries
    • Preparing supporting schedules and account reconciliations on balance sheet and income statement line items
    • Extensive experience in dealing with internal and external customers in providing excellent customer service
  • Prefer: CPA candidate

Role Specific Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and the monthly financial close process
  • A high degree of accountability, responsibility and attention to detail are required, as well as a demonstrated ability to work within a complex entity structure (multi-entity, multi-site) organization
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks and deadlines with little supervision
  • Ability to deal well with ambiguity and shift gears quickly and comfortably
  • Ability to take initiative on projects and deadlines and quickly interpret data from multiple sources
  • Ability to use good judgment with a high level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Reasoning skills and ability to articulate logic behind decisions and identify insights (beyond basic reporting of events)
  • Ability to grasp and understand the many different moving parts and how they fit together within the combined organization; each enterprise unit has different product offerings and organizational infrastructure which contributes to a variety of customer needs and accounting challenges
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and SharePoint
  • Ability to be able to quickly learn and maneuver within the Workday accounting system
  • Ability to recognize, question, challenge and investigate new, unique, unusual or inconsistent transactions, results or account balances independently and prior to submitting work product for review
  • General knowledge of internal controls, the control environment, control documentation and process improvement
