Facilities & Services (F&S) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications for a Financial Data Analyst - Accounting Associate. Under administrative direction, provides specialized analysis, reporting and reconciliation in the management and/or administration of Facilities & Services (F&S) Financial Operations. Supports, as needed, areas of data extraction, translation and analysis; accounting process; reporting and reconciliation; and financial forecasting.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Implement and execute data mining efforts from University and F&S data sources to create reports and analysis to support the business intelligence needs of staff. Apply analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills to fulfill information requests. 2. Serve as the unit subject matter expert for University and F&S computer systems, databases and data models. 3. Reconcile F&S subsidiary system information to various systems of record. Analyze research, document and resolve differences. Provide insight and recommendations to F&S Financial Operations management for improvements to policies, processes and systems. 4. Perform analysis and provide specialized reporting to monitor financial results of various F&S business units. Use independent professional judgment to identify trends, errors, anomalies, and omissions. 5. Assist in the calculation, review and monitoring of F&S service activity rates. 6. Assist in developing detailed financial reports and forecasts on monthly or other periodic basis. 7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or related field AND two (2) years of professional level accounting experience. OR (B) Possession of a current registration as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, or a valid License to practice Public Accounting. OR (C) Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.

Preferred Work Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in advanced data extraction techniques (such as ODBC, SQL, etc).
Training, Licenses or Certifications: (See Required Education for the substitution of training, licenses, or certifications for experience.)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Thorough knowledge of the theories, principles, methods, and procedures of professional accounting. 2. Ability to prepare, review and interpret complex accounting records and reports. 3. In-depth knowledge of financial forecasting and allocation methodologies. 4. Experience and aptitude in reconciling financial accounts. 5. Ability to deal tactfully with customers and stakeholders. 6. Two years or more of professional level accounting experience.
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION: This is a full-time Civil Service Accounting Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after July 1, 2019. Salary is commensurate with experience.
