Position Summary:

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development and maintenance of all packaging from concept to commercialization, across growth (new products, new channels/markets), quality improvement, and material sourcing initiatives.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

*Provide Packaging Engineering support for the development and launch of new products, includes defining package design parameters with R&D, Marketing and Product Development, encompassing developing and testing prototypes

*Possess a thorough understanding of all regulations and requirements associated with packaging and labeling for Hazardous materials including, but not limited to Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Radioactive sealed sources

*Develop material specifications and commodity drawings that are used by Purchasing to procure the packaging materials that are required to produce and ship SIG SAUER products. Manage and expedite Change Request documents, material specifications, and manufacturing bills of materials (Package Masters) needed to produce products.

*Design package exteriors, taking into consideration factors as product identification, sales appeal, aesthetic quality, printing, and production techniques.

*Oversee prototype development and performance testing. Adhere new packaging solutions in regards to sustainability and or packaging and manufacturing technology. Collaborate with suppliers, operations, and engineering in developing packaging for new products.

*Be the critical resource for packaging technical expertise for the product line and provide guidance to ensure packaging systems comply with internal and external customer and quality requirements

*Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, R&D, Product Management, and Sales to identify and implement opportunities to resolve challenges associated with the packaging of custom products

*Create, maintain & ensure standardized packaging specifications.

*Drive adoption of global standards and protocols to qualify packaging materials & vendors.

*Responsible for leading qualification projects of new packaging materials & suppliers related to cost savings and performance opportunities.

*Collaborate with internal & external partners providing technical support to ensure quality standards, package performance, and continued supply of packaging materials.

*Assist Quality & Manufacturing in solving packaging related quality issues. Provide guidance & processes to minimize recurrence.


Education and/or Experience:

*Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years' experience in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similarly related engineering field

*Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize and lead projects on a self-directed basis

*Ability to perform in a team-oriented environment is essential

*Agility to shift and adapt to changing priorities, proactively anticipating obstacles and flexibility to seek alternative solutions to keep projects on track

*Ability and willingness to work effectively in a diverse, disciplined team environment and work with limited supervision

*Project management skills – planning, analysis, resource deployment, and control

*Robust problem analysis and resolution on both strategic and functional levels

*Effective time management and prioritization skills to execute tasks within tight timeframes and deadlines

Working Conditions:

*Able to lift up to 25 pounds

*Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
