General Description:

Perform paraprofessional technical legal work and assist Chief Legal Officer of a motor fuel wholesaler and retailer in preparing and processing routine contracts and civil litigation documents. Training, close supervision, review and direction in the completion of assignments will be provided by the Chief Legal Officer.


• Preparing basic legal documents, forms, correspondence and reports

• Drafting contracts and security instruments

• Contract processing, including data entry, filing, calendaring, and recording liens

• Drafting complaints, motions, pleadings, and points and authorities under direct supervision

• Performing basic legal and factual research

• Filing and retrieving a variety of documents with/from various courts, recorders offices, process servers and    other offices

• Updating and organizing case, customer and computer files

• Drafting and filing post-judgment liens

• Attending small claims hearings

• Obtaining, reviewing, and summarizing legal documents, including contracts, due diligence items, and other    information

• Reviewing basic legal documents and forms for completeness and conformance

• Interacting with customers and debtors, including participating in meetings

• Managing certificates of insurance

• Special projects as assigned

• Performing general/clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, making copies, scanning,        sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, and processing incoming/outgoing mail

• Providing assistance to Chief Legal Officer and other departments as needed

• Successful candidate will be required to obtain a Notary license paid for by the Company

Work experience requirements:

• Thorough knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles, rules and procedures

• Proficient in the use of computers and related software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel

• Understanding of basic accounting principles and practices

• Thorough knowledge of civil, contract and real estate laws

• Ability to properly handle confidential material and confidential communications

• Draft and analyze legal documents and correspondence

• Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work assignments and meet deadlines

• Attention to detail and accuracy in the preparation and review of all legal documents

• Strong research, analytical and critical thinking skills

• Written and verbal communication sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers and other members of the  public

Minimum Education Requirements

• Certificate of completion from a paralegal program recognized by the American Bar Association or an              Associates’ Degree in paralegal studies.

• California Driver’s License
