Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, Nutrition or related field required
  • Registered Dietitian required
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years working experience in a nutrition education role, preferably in the education industry
  • Must have experience and knowledge of regulation and compliance governing the CACFP program
  • Good decision making and judgment capabilities
  • The ability to instruct others
  • The ability to identify and solve complex problems
  • Being socially perceptive; that is, aware of the reactions of others and understanding those reactions
  • Good reading comprehension skills
  • Good coordination skills and the ability to adjust one’s actions in relation to others’ actions
  • Effective logic, reasoning and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication and listening skills
  • Skilled in teaching and training methods applicable to nutrition and adult education.

Position Purpose:

The registered dietitian will work under the supervision of the Senior Director, CFC. He/she will be responsible for planning, developing and directing all nutritional care standards and providing wellness and nutritional education and resources for the agency, children and families. This position will directly supervise nutritionists who manage the Center and Family Child Care food programs throughout California. They will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and oversight of all fiscal and program audits.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assess overall agency, children and center's nutritional and health needs and risks
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as well as CDI/CDC policies and procedures (e.g. Health Dept., HIPAA/Privacy Act, Joint Commission, quality assurance, safety, operations, and personnel) by keeping abreast of the most recent nutrition-related trends, research, policy, certifications, and standards of practice.
  • Establishes operating standards, implements quality improvements and communicates them to other departments.
  • Ensures that fundamental theories, concepts, methods, and basic sciences involved in nutrition and public health are develop and maintained in agency and programs.
  • Collaborates with other key stakeholders to ensure streamlined services exist between nutrition, health services, social service services, executive team and other senior department leaders,
  • Techniques to address nutrition problems of multi-ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic groups.
  • Counsel staff, children and families on nutritional issues and healthy eating habits.
  • Oversight of and co-development of meal and nutrition plans, taking budgets into account.
  • Evaluate the ongoing impact and results of meal plans and change the plans as needed
  • Promote better health and wellness by speaking to groups about diet, nutrition, and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases
  • Provides training and serves as an education resource for staff, parents, children, and other members of the community.
  • Document progress and track, manage and audit implementation of nutritional plans and programs
  • Support Nutritionist with tools and resources to provide 1:1 nutrition counseling as needed.
  • Participating in vendor selection and dietary services equipment process
