Job Requirements

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure that all production functions are operated in a safe, environmentally sound, efficient, and cost-effective manner for plant operations in Kalamazoo.
  • Responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of schedules, budgets, and performance standards for production operations, both short term and long term. Support Senior VP of Global Manufacturing and Global Supply Chain Officer and be an interface for global capital strategies and implementation. Designs/modifies relevant measurement systems to establish current levels and lead to areas of improvement. Use LEAN and other production management techniques to optimize production operations.
  • Develops and implements a 3-year strategy, systems, structure and staffing to improve on time delivery, schedule attainment and productivity improvements. Co-develops goals and objectives, responsibilities, and accountability with department staff to achieve world class customer service and on-time delivery performance with a variable workforce.
  • Responsible for compliance with federal/country and state/province and local laws pertaining to health, safety, and environmental regulations on plant sites.
  • Responsible for the addition of new facilities and technologies. Drive sustainability improvements to minimize carbon footprints, waste generation and solvent usage
  • Responsible for the development of future leaders in the business. Develop succession plans, design organizational changes, coach and develop staff on projects and career goals, staffing and training plans and coaches all direct reports on personnel development.
  • Keep current with new manufacturing technologies, six sigma/lean statistical analysis methods and tools, and participate in relevant outside organizations.
  • Keep current on new methods and techniques to increase workforce motivation and engagement, as well as participate in relevant external organizations.
  • Collaboratively works with union leadership and union members to improve measures of operations. Openly shares progress, successes and challenges with broader union operators.

Our client is a global leader in the development of spice and herb extracts, natural colors, antioxidants and hop extracts for the food, beverage, nutritional and pharmaceutical markets! We have been retained to find a VP of Manufacturing. This role will be based in Kalamazoo, Michigan.


Job Summary:

Responsible for developing the strategy, direction, planning & execution of Kalamazoo manufacturing to meet customer needs in a timely manner. Safely deliver quality products on time continually removing waste and cost, while respecting employees, the environment, our neighbors and suppliers while meeting the expectations of our customers. Work closely with the executive & leadership teams on corporate plans, goals, and resource allocation to deliver on Private & Sustainable strategies and goals.


Requirements:

  • Engineering, Advanced Technical Degree, or equivalent with 10 years of experience leading multi-plant operations.
  • Proven expertise in LEAN or Six Sigma, Statistical Design & Analysis, and Process Optimization.
  • Ability to influence and manage large groups or projects to attain a desired goal. Delegation and personnel development are key components here.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) and/or other quality programs such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Controls Points (HACCP), Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
  • Experience in leading or participating in large capital or growth projects.
  • Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and process control systems.

Desired:

  • MS in Plant Operations, Engineering Management and/or MBA or other advanced relevant degree
  • Food processing experience
  • Experience managing in collaborative team environment.
  • Expertise in developing continuous processes from batch processes.
  • Solids handling and hydrogenations a plus
  • Project management experience (cost, schedule, delivery)
  • Unit Operations Experience (distillation, extraction, separations, oxidations, bio-transformations, organic chemical reactions)
