The Distribution OIT, Meter reader and Service Tech will perform a variety of operation and maintenance work related to a public water distribution system.
The operator will provide customer service to District residents related to pressure, water quality, and leaks.
The operator may interface with contractors and consultants, representing the needs and interests of the District.
Performs a variety of field service duties including meter reading, inspection, maintenance, and customer service-oriented work related to the water distribution system.
Uploads and downloads information to and from hand-held meter reading devices
Investigates unusual readings and customer complaints regarding high bills, taste and odor, and pressure related problems; re-reads meters as necessary; resolves problems or prepares work orders for follow-up.
Performs customer service duties in the field as necessary including service turn-ons and turn-offs and hanging door hangers related to service and delinquent accounts; assists in routing and re-routing of meters.
Inspects meters and lines for damage or leaks; installs and exchanges water meters; repairs water leaks; replaces meter lids; reports inoperative or damaged meters, bypassed meters and related problems; clears or reports meters obstructed by landscaping; prepares service requests as necessary.
Provides training to new meter readers; determines safe routes; provides training on meter operations and proper meter reading techniques
Operates City vehicles; inspects and fuels vehicles and performs minor maintenance; orders parts and supplies, as necessary.
Conduct distribution system flushing.
Maintains all equipment used in trench work for both excavating and back filling and equipment
Install and repair water service
Install and repair water main lines
Install and repair Fire Hydrant, inspection, and maintenance
Perform valve inspection and repair.
Answer water quality complaints and communications.
Set customer appointments for pressure, leak, and meter checks.
Be responsible for care and maintenance of assigned company vehicle.
Performs other duties as required.
High School Diploma or GED required
This position typically holds or is working on first level water certification.
Must reside within 45 minutes of the District office and be available for on-call shifts and be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
Must possess a valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
Understands and practices all safety procedures outlined by OSHA, State, and the company.
