Johnson Service Group is a national recruiting organization that finds resources for the engineering, skilled labor trade, and technical support areas for our clients. We have a client in the Southern Suburbs that is looking for a Materials Manager. This person will be responsible for overseeing warehousing, shipping, receiving and materials handling.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Plans and manages production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements and best utilize the company production capacity.
  • Develop and control profits, plans and budgets.
  • Responsible for the management of inventory levels, schedules and availability of selected item, either manufactured or purchased, to meet production schedules.
  • Complete shipping information and delivery date input during Sale Order Reviews.
  • Establishes purchasing policies and ensures compliance.
  • Administers corporate purchasing card program.
  • Develops new supply sources when vendors are inadequate.
  • Negotiates blanket purchase orders when appropriate and monitors cost during the time period.
  • Checks requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers.
  • Oversees and has overall responsibility for receipt of incoming products and materials including: 
  • Completion of incoming inspection testing, confirmation of certificate of conformance and reconciliation of receiving/purchase documentation
  • Notification and/or delivery of incoming product to end user
  • Ensures each receipt has documentation (packing slips) to support computer system entries
  • Requires completion of daily receiving entries into computer system
  • Receivers distributed to purchasing office for filing
  • Works closely with receiving to ensure proper supplies arrived.
  • Traces delinquent arrivals from purchase orders.
  • Responsible for overseeing actual physical counts and cycle counts of raw materials.
  • Manage material requirements to increase inventory turns and reduce levels on hand.
  • Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with US laws.
  • Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics.
  • Order floor stock with shelf life material for production.
  • Negotiates with vendors for goods and services, negotiating the best possible price and service guarantee.
  • Receive and review sales orders against current requirements and work in process using the Material Requirement planning report.
  • Release purchase orders for production material, floor stock items and all purchases to support the business.
  • Interfaces with shipping to expedite orders.
  • Develops and maintains product data sheets.
  • Maintains contract and pricing information.
  • Maintains accurate inventory records of all products.
  • Creates various sales and product reports.
  • Monitor vendor performance and establish criteria and rating system for critical vendors.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent customer service skills required with ability to handle customer inquiries and provide detailed level of technical support.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with all departments and levels in the company and become a contributing member of the team.
  • Able to bring management perspective to the position to develop the structure, systems, and procedures required to support the company’s rapid sales growth.
  • Kaizen and Lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; follow through; perform short and long term planning.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple priorities and accomplish multiple tasks.
  • Proficient with PC based applications including Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Experience with ERP software.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • APICS Certification in Production & Inventory Control Management
