About the Company:

Growing global maritime dry bulk Shipping Corporation (located in Scarsdale) managing a fleet of 20+ bulk carriers seeks a Staff Accountant.  Ideal candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail and be computer savvy with expertise in Microsoft Excel and preferably Microsoft Dynamics SL. Experience of 1-5 years with an Accounting undergraduate degree is highly desirable. Competitive salary offered commensurate with experience.    

About the Staff Accountant Role:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for processing disbursements accounts, updating the general ledger, acting as back-up for the accounts receivable function and assisting with special projects as needed. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded bookkeeping professional with the ability to adapt to dynamic environments.

Key Responsibilities:

 Voyage accounting and Agents accounts:

o  Process final disbursement accounts using DA-Desk system; including reviewing supporting documents, and importing disbursement account file into Dynamics SL.

o  Regularly monitor group email for advances, and liaise with Operations department to ensure expenses and advances are recorded in the GL.

o  Reconcile vendor statements to GL.

o  Process month-end items.

 Accounts receivable:

o  Monitor and record incoming funds and send internal and external confirmations for funds received.

o  Follow up internally (using aging reports from GL) on outstanding receivable balances from customers, and missing documentation from brokers.

o  Coordinate with operations department to issue invoices.

o  Coordinate time-charter receivables and process hire-statements.

 Other tasks:

o  Assist with external audit requests and respond to inquiries.

o  Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts held by the Company.

o  Assist CFO and Assistant Controller in other ad-hoc requests.

o  Back-up for other accounting functions.


Job Requirements

Required Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:

 Accounting undergraduate degree with fundamental accounting knowledge.

 Proficiency in Microsoft Office – specifically, in Excel.

 Working knowledge of standard accounting software (preferably Dynamics SL in the shipping or logistics industry).

 Clear and proactive communicator through verbal and written interactions.

 Problem-solving and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task.

 Self-motivated and able to take initiative to identify and solve problems.
